When I have the money for skype I will be positively pranking people what do you mean by this D: In order to call actual phones, you need to sign up for a plan (besides your one free call).

I'm totally late for all of this discussing, but I was reading through everything and I must say that everyone has sort of the same idea. Which is good, considering we're all a community here. I like the idea of each of us finding something to do for the Christmas season, whether it be gifting the homeless, or the orphaned children. Everyone deserves a little something for christmas. Then again, for those that live in small towns like me, where there are no homeless people, or foster children, that might be a bit hard. My idea would be to find a way to bring the arts to people that can't get to local theatres or museums. Start an improv group out of your home with some friends, and from there, build a larger comic community and raise money for a specific charity. Host game nights and such. Back when I lived in Kentucky, we played this awesome game called Humans vs. Zombies. The entry fee to play this game was 5 dollars, and it all went to a charity for children. Stuff like that, small stuff, is definitely doable by the people who want to make sure that they're giving awesomeness to people this year.

what do you mean by this D: In order to call actual phones, you need to sign up for a plan (besides your one free call). It costs $3 a month for unlimited everything, text and call. But it only gets service where there is unsecured Wi-Fi, or you can enter the WEPA code.

I love Cam's idea of Buy A Homeless Guy a Christmas Gift =) or give a random person on the street a gift. That'd be cool.

It wasn't really a SPOTM project but today I partook in a 'flashmob'.
Every year in Belgium there's a grand 'project for awesome'; 3 radio hosts lock themselves into a glass house with only drinks and very little food. At this 'house' there's a box where you can donate money and a microphone where you can request songs (you have to bid for your song to reach the number 1 and then it get's played..)(BTW these usually are around 30~50 euro)
So during this lock up, people organise many events where they collect money to go and donate at the house..
and today I went with a group of people to go and collect money by doing flashmobs in Antwerp and ask the people to donate.. (we collect about 375€)
The overall collected money goes to a cause that isn't so wel known.. (The money isn't just transferred to an account.. no.. the radio station follows the money and oversees that it is delivered and used correctly..)
so yeah..

Cool! About my secret project, even though it isn't quite ready to be revealed, let me just tell you guys, it has the potential to be IRL and SPOTM-relevant at the same time.

We could just have a recycling drive and encourage all members to recycle everything they can.

How about this for a project: Gather people who are into visual art and create propaganda though graphic competitions. Foster Talent, Inspire people, Promote causes. Will give the community something to do too.
The reason we cannot apply or decide on an idea is because the community lacks talent. Foster talent and we will be able to apply these ideas. Create a series of projects which foster such talents.

no...talent is not the issue...we have LOTS of talent here on the moon...especially graphical talent...the issue is motivation and passion More like motivation and action. Passion isn't necessarily a problem. Unless, that is, no one is doing anything. But I'm pretty sure this topic has been covered multiple times every few months. There seem to be a lot of ideas as to what we can do for a Real World Project. I propose that we give a certain amount of time - let's say, two or three months - to focus on ONE project, then move on to another for a select period of time. That would give us time to promote awareness for whatever project that may be, possibly raise some money, and actually do something. Sure, we would only be limited to a few projects per year, but that's okay! We would still be doing something against worldsuck, and every little bit counts.

no passion is THE issue. without passion about something why would you do it? unless you were being compelled to do it, or forced to do it...
heres what i mean. suppose you had one free day next wednesday. on that day you were told that you could volunteer at a homeless shelter, serving food. having nothing else to do, you agree to do it. you care about homeless people after all...
the next day youre told that your favourite band will be playing in town and that your friend wants to take you...would you go to the concert or the shelter? the band is one youve loved your whole life...and this is the first time you will ever see them in concert.
now...suppose you were told yet another day later that your girlfriend/boyfriend who was away on a month long trip to costa rica to visit her grandmother will be coming back the coming wednesday...and then leaving again for another 3 weeks.
where would you go?
the question boils down to...which are you most passionate about? homeless people...the band...or your partner?
a better example...and this is sad. youre told that you can volunteer weekly at a homeless shelter. you go and do it. then you join a bowling league (insert other interest/hobby here) which meets up on tuesdays. eventually you make it to teh finals and teh games fall out on teh same days as your volunteer days...which would you choose? '
again, which are you more passionate about?
this obviously doesnt apply to EVERYONE on SPOTM, but im sure it does to teh majority. after all how many opportunities do you have to help people and you dont take them?
its not because you dont care...you DO care. you just arent passionate. thats what this is all about. passion. reignite the passion in people to help others...and the projects will form on their own.
how to create passion...now THAT is a difficult one...any answers?

An officer is assigned to the creative corner, the creative corner his his/her business. His job would be to motivate people to work towards competitions and post tutorials to help educate people. Competitions are organised in conjunction to whats going on with the tribe in general, if there is a hot topic as regards drugs - than drugs shall be the topic. Gradually users will start mimicking the officer in organizing competitions and educating other users. Point is to have a tribe which is able to produce top class media - dominating this niche will take us to new horizons. As D.Roosvelt would say "Plans are useless, but planning is essential" - such activity will give make us work towards ideas which are more tangible. Is that good enough for you?
