I seriously enjoyed how you showed a fundamental understanding of the issues at hand seemed to get a lot of things right in the video. I have to say I respectfully disagree with a lot of your posts here on the boards and for the most part, they seem to be severely lacking in perspective, perspective you demonstrated here.
I really enjoyed the video and hope to see more like it in the future ^_^

Not much to say, other then I agree.
It's interesting to compare what I was taught in (catholic) school, and what I've experienced. In school I was, at least initially, taught that Muslims were okay people, until 9/11 - then they were probably required to be either "RAWR! ISLAM BAD!" or just ignore their existence. Let's face it, this is what Catholics do with their children in my hometown sometimes.
High School was a lot better - World Religions covered pretty much all the fundamentals of the Islamic faith - and at one point we even visited the mosque in Ottawa.
However, it wasn't until I moved out of Redneckville and started going to Trent when what I experienced kicked in. I've never actually met a Muslim until I started university. I've met moderate Muslims, Muslims who are firm believers, and Muslims who love to debate religion. They were all really nice people. My best friend is... well, he WAS a Muslim - he's an Atheist now - but he still follows some of the practices - and his parents didn't react to his atheism in any negative way.
I've never met anybody even remotely close to a Muslim extremist.

Alex, I cant get youtube right now, but Ill reply to you later, sounds like you have good views. Aust? I thought you didnt state that very well. The way you said catholic school like its us, the catholics, who started this anti-muslum thing. Its fricking america dude! The whole of the country, no matter what religion, is very anti-muslum. It could have been any school that taught you that, but you went out of your way to state that it was a catholic school that did, thereby implying that catholics dont like muslums. Why else would you state that? Listen to this: I went to a (Jewish) school. There we were taught that muslums are good, well up until 9/11. Now they need to be feared. I learned this wasnt the case, but its just what the Jews are like, they do that sometimes to kids. Now is that true, no, I dont think any Jewish school would teach that. I go to a Catholic school, and guess what we were taught?? THAT MUSLUMS ARE GOOD! We went through all the religons, and we spent a week on Islamic religions, and know what? We did an essay on how 9/11 has tainted the image of them, and why they arent bad people. So why would you state, directly impling that Catholics are the leading ones in the anti-muslum beliefs, when it is really anyone, no matter what your religion? I dont know, but dont assume things based on personal experience.

I wasn't implying anything. All I did was state my experience. I implicitly said that I agree with Alex. What I then went on to do was compare what I was taught! I never at any point, implied that what I was taught is what all catholics were taught, nor what they believed. Just what MY community was taught.
And I made a bad joke. Check your sarcasm radar. It's likely broken.
When did I assume things? Okay, yes, I said that Catholics are sometimes guilty of brainwashing. That was in poor taste - but I've certainly experienced enough of that influence from the clergy that it'll be hard to convince me otherwise. Perhaps your experience with Catholicism are different - but my school was, literally, right next to the church. Every aspect of Grades 1-8 were with the clergy breathing down our necks, manipulating our education to their own needs. It was fortunate that the influence didn't continue through high school.
Still - it was that sort of behaviour that influenced me to stop following the Catholic teaching in the first place
And let me say this again - this is what Iexperienced, not what YOU experienced, not what Alex experienced, and certainly not what anybody else on the planet experienced.
Sad part is - my case isn't unique in any way. This happens ALL THE TIME, not just with Catholics - but a lot of other Christian sects, and even Jews have had this problem (though, it's likely because of the Palestinian Conflict, rather than because of 9/11). My best friend-who-was-a-Muslim I mentioned earlier? HE was taught the same SHIRT I was taught - and he went to a PUBLIC school. Same with everybody I know who grew up in a small community.

Nope, I grew up with the Church right next door, and I go to a Catholic High School. Acctually, they say my grade school was the most conservative grade school in our diocese, and our diocese is known as the most conservative diocese in the country(We still dont have female altar servers because its not "traditional" or "right")
Was I taught that everything the church teaches is correct? Yes. Is that brainwashing? No. Teaching it is what they did, and they do try to convince you that its the right way. But am I a free thinking human, who has my own will to choose what I believe? Yes. Now, brainwashing would be not using your brain, and just taking whatever you were given. But you were taught that you need to eat healthy to live a good life right? Well isnt that just their belief? Its a widely accepted belief because its backed by science, but its still a belief. Am I going up in arms because my parents put me in a school where they taught me to eat my vegetables when I think that I dont need to? No, because I have used my brain and realized that I should be healthy, and have chosen to take on the belief of eating right.
But basically, the reason I took offense to your post is not because of whats stated, thats part of it. No, if you would have posted that in a discussion about the bible or about jesus, I would have understood, because it deals directly with the subject. But blatantly going out of your way to state that it was because you went to a catholic school that you were taught Muslims were bad. Why didn't you just say school? Why did you have to bring religion into this? It seems to me like you were trying to blame Catholics and all christians for alot of the hate of Muslims, when the two arent even related. I just dont get why you brought it up. But I am willing to listen, and so please, explain. I dont want this to be sounding angry, Im not. I am just....dumbfounded about it I guess.

Of course religion was going to be in the picture - even if I DIDN'T mention it in the first place. Such is the nature of this topic.
Now, I could have omitted it, but then I wouldn't be telling of my experience with the treatment of Muslims. I could be vague, but what then? Demonize 10 000 people as a town of bigots? Or, go with the route I took, and call just 5 people bigots?
I said it before, and I'll say it until my point gets across - This. Is. Just. MY. Experience. I never, at any point IMPLIED that this is what everybody did, and certainly not what every Catholic did. I made a sarcastic, very bad, but still fairly obvious joke. Most people I know would have reacted "oh, silly Kyle, he's making jokes at his former faith again" but you, good sir, took it literally, and blew it out of proportion. Perhaps I should go back and edit the original post, so it's more specific.
Either way, I'm done. I'm not going to argue this anymore. It's pointless.
