I don't see the point of arguing about religion. It is all based on someone's believes. Believes change in a person from time to time so, why argue over something so simple as religion? When I hear people argue about religion I think to myself why can't they just get over themselves. Their believes may be right or could be very far off but why argue over it.
I would love to hear what SPOTM members have to say about this.

The more I think about religion, the more I get confused about what religion even is. What's the difference between a religion and general beliefs about the nature of reality? And if there is little or no difference, why do we bother about it so much?

I don't usually like to debate religion here, simply because I used to hand around on SodaHead
There really is nothing like a religious debate on SodaHead
Besides - most of us agree with each other

One reason people would debate religion is because religion is an important topic in their minds and they firmly believe in their views. So they take to the threads and thrust their thoughts down the throats of others.

Sometimes nothing gets accomplish when debating religion, but sometimes people might improve their arguments after a debate, and might understand why their arguments for or against religion might be fallacious or poor, and so they can start thinking more critically about it (no matter which side you are). Also, it's important to discuss religion (not necessarily here in the SPOTM, but everywhere) because some people take their beliefs as the absolute truth and not just personal beliefs, and some people act on said absolute truths and try to change life and people around themselves according to their beliefs and when people do that it might result on harmful actions, and when this kind of people appear is when it's important to discuss religion and debate.

I just counted all the threads on SPOTM about religion. We are currently sitting at 4,892,993,416,520. Maybe because people are always wondering about religion. Religion is a big deal to a lot of people, there are always questions being asked. I know a lot of people that I always talk religion too. Religion is a pretty big debate in a lot of families and relationships so I could only imagine that it would be a big thing in a debate forum on SPOTM; where a lot of the members have different views on religion.
