Say you're playing a nice bullet hell game - Raidan X comes to mind - when all of a sudden, there's an insanely powerful enemy, with bullets everywhere, in pattens! Lasers! Miniature suns! Butterflies!
Now, imagine the entire damn game is like that.
Throw in a story, make all the aeroplanes turn into varying Japanese mythological creatures represented by girls of varying levels of cuteness, add epic music, support it with thousands of rabid fans, and up the insanity and you've got this:
And that's one of the easier battles.
Fellow residents of the moon - I give you the Touhou Project. 11 games worth of this, plus three games with similar mechanics, a Break-out clone, and three fighters. All of it done by one man named ZUN.
And this is nothing to say of the fan-work. Art work, remixes of the music, music videos, an anime - hell, it was even featured on CNN - the context was wrong - but it was featured on CNN.
Not bad for an alcoholic.
So! If you're so inclined - try one of them out. They've all been translated into English - you know where to find me if you need me to show you where to go in getting one.
And I DARE you to finish one of them on Normal Difficulty without using a continue.

Find the pattern, win the game. It always works. *tries very hard to hold laughter in* Find the pattern, navigate it, and hope to hell there's no surprises. That'll get you to stage 3. Quickly move to safe spots, and don't panic. That'll get you through Stage 3. Panic, and bomb like hell. That'll get you through Stage 4. Calm down, Panic, calm down, panic. Stage 5 cleared. Have intense focus, time your movements perfectly, don't move too much, and never take your hand off the fire button, and start with 5 lives, and you'll have a fair chance of clearing the final stage. As for the extra - you will never be prepared for the extra.

Drake's Fortune 2 is nothing like Touhou.
The video up there is an example of one of the EASIER fights. Granted, it's on the hardest difficulty setting - but even the normal difficulty is damn near impossible.
Here's the typical battle (on the hardest difficulty again - it's the most common difficulty on youtube videos of the series)
ZUN, the creator, even said himself "If you can beat the game after 20 tries, it's too easy"
