I'm sure there is another thread on this... but new people and I don't want to dig up the old.
So, what do you think about "illegally downloading" stuff off websites like thepiratebay.com or limewire?
I am all for it, but I want some other opinions.

I'm all for buying the things.
Even if it's intangible, it represents the work of people. It's stealing from the people who make the things you love.
And before you point me to that "copying is not theft" video, you're stealing intellectual property.
Now, I HATE DRM. It's stupid and it makes us legal buyers be roped to the limitations it gives us. What I do is I buy the thing I want, and if the DRM is too restrictive, I pirate it. How come people who didn't pay get more freedom than the actual customers?
That's my 2 cents.

They will get to you if you use piratebay.com. From what I know it leaves your IP. I use IPtorrents.com, they incript their information, also its kind of a closed circle where you can only join if invited by a friend (not going to get into all their rules and all but they do a very good job at keeping the wrong people out), so one knows that all their torrents and safe.

I am for it, but if I really like a band or artists, I'll still buy it to support them. (Same with movies.)
I mostly use KickAssTorrents, but if I can't find it there, I try ThePirateBay, or LimeTorrents. I download music and movies. And recently, I got Photoshop... If, and once I have the money, I will pay for photoshop...

Personally, I don't believe in intellectual property rights. (I mean how can you OWN an idea?) That being said, I still prefer to get things through legitimate means when possible. If it isn't possible (or at least very inconvenient) it's really their own fault if we pirate their stuff.
It seems to me that big companies use copyright law less for the money's sake and more just to have control over all instances of the ideas they purport to own. They are control freaks - why should this be backed up by law?

They INVEST money just like into any other business, of course they want they investment protected by law! I torrent all the time but at least I see it as it is and don't use some BS logic (uhh....you guyz didn't make it convenient...uhhh) to defent what I do. And what is this you are saying about intellectual right? This is the kind of talk one would expect to hear in some 3rd world country.

I think the only thing that's criminal is that when I PURCHASE a song on iTunes, Steve Jobs only lets me transfer it 3 times...And the copy protection prevents any possibility of converting it to MP3 without a severe level of inconvenience and know-how.

And that is why you buy physical albums.

This is the kind of talk one would expect to hear in some 3rd world country. And what do you think countries like mine think? Don't generalize. By my standards, americans are a bunch of rich idiots, but I respect them, and I don't make those kind of statements. *back to the topic*

Call it a less developed country... I'm pretty sure that's the politically correct term... Anyways, I can't justify spending so much on entertainment when I can get it for free... IMO these things shouldn't cost so much. I mean, why do actors make millions of dollars? People are willing to dish out so much money for a couple hours of entertainment... And same for professional athletes. All they do is play a sport, yes it's entertaining, but $200+ for a ticket to a Canucks game is unjustifiable... I'd rather spend the money I have on more important things, and P2P sharing allows me to do that... most of the time.
