So I'm entering in a contest at my school for a new logo for our news network. Here is what I have so far. Any graphic designers out there have any tips or things that could be changed? (btw, our mascot is the Titan, thus the reason for the lightning bolt)

Looks good The only 'negative' thing I see are the pixelly lines here and there

For a school thing, it's pretty f***ing amazing.

For a school thing, it's pretty f***ing amazing. Agreed. Try vectorizing it. If it's gonna be used everywhere, you'll have a super hi res version of the logo no matter the size.

Here is the pretty-much-finished higher res version.. Its actually bigger but tinypic resized it. Also.. umm... Whats a vector? Heard about them.. dun know what they really are..

Vectors are images, but represented differently.
Nearly all images are bitmaps, that is a grid composed of pixels which each have a state (color). When you resize a grid, the only thing you're doing is to make the cells bigger, thus, when they're bigger than your computer's size of pixels, it "pixelates".
But vectors aren't made of a grid, but of a set of instructions on how to recreate the image.
To explain it, here's a rectangle as a bitmap (a very crude representation)
**** *---* ****
It's a grid made of *s and -s.
As a vector, it'd be
Draw 4 units to the right, 3 units down, 4 units to the left, 3 units up.
It's not exactly how it works (vectors generally work with coordinates), but that's a simple way to explain it.
I was actually vectorizing your logo (you have to retrace it in a program such as Inkscape, which is free BTW), but I rage-quit after it crashed (children, never forget to press ctrl-s every once in a while). It's not too complicated, and in this case, it shouldn't take you more than 20 mins.
You can add gradients and shades to a vector. If you want to wait, I can do it for you Sunday-ish, but seeing that it's a simple logo, you could learn a lot from this experience!

That's tight...I really like. I would brighten up the red a bit though, just think about contrast. With the shadow, the edge of the red gets just a little bit lost. That's all.

That is a nice logo! Also, if you are looking for a better vector program try Adobe Illustrator. I actually love it!
