I, personally will have to stay true to Blue/Red. That's Pokemon at it's finest, imo. And in that regard I have to choose Squirtle, for the epic Blastoise.
Which do you guys prefer?

Mudkip. It evolves into Marshtomp, which evolves into Swampert, which happens to be my favorite Pokemon, and an awesome one competitively at that. ^^
I also agree that the first generation WAS Pokemon at it's finest, design-wise.

I also agree that the first generation WAS Pokemon at it's finest, design-wise. Right? They've gotten so generic and ridiculous in the 4th gen. Plus nobody even has cards anymore I don't think. I gave my girlfriends siblings my old common/uncommon cards (they're 6,6,& 9) And they didn't even know half of them ._. AND my cousin, 10, didn't know what the actual Pokemon game was about, he had Mystery Dungeon or something that was a complete fail. I wept.

Yeah, nobody has the cards anymore... There's too many Pokemon to even be remotely interested in the card game anymore. And mmhm, the spin-off 3rd+ gen games are pretty bad... I say 3rd+ gen, because Pokemon Snap was the SHIRT.

Mudkipz are the perfect pokemon: water AND ground type (Wooper's got that going for it too). And who wouldn't want the ability to throw mud at people you don't like? or maybe at people you DO like!

Just got Heart Gold the other day. Totodile aaalll the way. I liked the 1st and 2nd gen best, but I have to say I'm enjoying some of the extra stuff they've added in HG, like the Pokeathalon (i just like usign the stylus =P). It looks alot better too. I wasn't a big fan of the monochrome.

I don't see my pokemon on there it's called a shadow pikachu it's kind of a joke but still I choose it and beat everyone. I mean honestly the thing does 240 dmg with a coin flip to determine if it kills off your entire bench or it just does 120 damage and calls it a day. It has 999 HP and an infinite level.

Ninetails! Or Rapidash.. or Scyther... It's not fair.. all you guys are young enough that it's not ridiculous for you to know the names of the Pokemon. It's a constant source of shame for me.

I'm actually playing through Fire Red right now (3rd generation, for GB advance on emulator) and its so much fun. Just finished Leaf Green (remake of the original blue) I get an urge to play pokemon every couple years, and I still love it. I just reached victory road and will challenge the Elite 4 soon. In case you guys were wondering, (I know you are, don't deny it! ) my team this time around consists of - Lanturn (electric/water) - Blaziken (fire/fighting) - Medicham (fighting/psychic) - Gardevoir (psychic) - Flygon (ground/dragon) - Walrein (water/Ice) I tried to use ones I hadn't used before, and went with weird types. I really like this team, I think it'll work well.
