I was talking to a friend of mine today when he said something that was a metaphorical Brick to the face for me:
"Learn to love your pig"
5 words that will forever be burned in my mind. I thought about these 5 simple words and their unfathomable depth, and eventually came to an epiphany.
America is a pig. It can be unclean at times, and it's not really appealing to look at, But it's OUR pig, and we need to accept it for that.
This rocked me to my core. I can remember the moment I started looking around and realizing what really goes on around us, and I was sickened at the ignorance. I separated myself from my sense of nationalism, and even though it began the seeds of change in my own mind, I started a level 3 interaction between me and the place I've called home for the last 16 years.
But now, thanks to my friend I have moved from a level 3 interaction with the U.S. to a level 4 interaction. I've accepted the ignorance around me while continuing to try to eradicate it!

I was being sarcastic there. All countries that I know of have their problems, and no country can ever be perfect. We have to live with what we have, and if we love it, it's better.

But it's OUR pig, and we need to accept it for that. I'm sorry, but I can't understand how you would be able to try to improve your country if you "accept it as it is". You can say what you want, but accepting something on the long term means agreeing to live with the fact that it won't change. I think it's a lot better and more interesting to not accept it and to change it, together with other people, trying to make them think for themselves about the situation that your in. That's a lot more going towards a level 4 tribe than what you're describing imo.

I agree and disagree. I believe you should accept your pig, because if you neglect your pig, it will die. However, that doesn't mean don't try to improve. Work on your pig, give it a bath, feed it nicely. It will always be a pig, but that doesn't mean it can't be a good looking pig. x]

I never said that I'm not going to try to improve my surroundings. I believe that acceptance in a lot of ways is the first part of improvement, because when you focus on the good it's a lot easier to single-out the bad.
Also, the term is completely relative, Me referring to my Home country was just my initial thoughts.

hmm, I don't know, but I think acceptance leads to conformity rather than to change

I think maybe "tolerance" would be a better word here, rather than "acceptance"? Because as CrrackTheSkye said, if you simply accept something as it is, that doesn't really mean you're going to change it. But if you tolerate something, I think that still leaves room for loving the pig and trying to change it. Besides, if you do love something, that means you will try to change it if it's in a bad spot.

actually i think it isn't such a bad idea, if you'd push away everything you don't like at first you'd be pretty lonely but if you accept it without being its zombie that's the point where you can really change it, cause how are you supposed to do that from the outside? you have to be a part of smth in order to change it.

Well at least we all agree on the general idea (as far as I know), and the word choice doesn't really matter.
