I've been wanting to make a music video type thing but I'm not quite sure what the rules are about using music in a video. I've done it before in previous videos and they haven't done anything about it. I just want to make sure before I make the video.

I've been wondering about this myself. I have a music video up on my channel and it hasn't gotten removed, but I also had a video with music going along to me playing a game, and the audio got removed from that one. It's weird. But the thing is, the audio only got removed, not the video... Also, I would check this out: pogotribe.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=theinternets&action=display&thread=896

Gesh: that's because the copyright holder of the audio can't force you to take down the video, as that's not their property, on the other hand though, they will remove the audio if it's only the images that are copyrighted... @topic: 1 minute of looking around YT's homepage: Copyright notice.

I've read that before but it doesn't tell me what I can or cannot use.

The only 100% safe bet is to use music that YOU have personally made. Covers are okay here as long as it's fully you (or you & your friends, you get it). Another route is freesound.org, since the files there are for unrestricted use.

My advice would be just to steer clear of anything copy-righted, because chances are the audio will be removed eventually... Sometimes the audio is removed as soon as you upload the video, sometimes it takes time, but either way, it'll probably happen. Instead, use music from incompetech.com/ or other sites with royalty-free music. I guess that doesn't really work for a music video... I'm not really sure what to tell you about that... Sorry...

Haha, it's alright, was just an idea that I have had floating around in my head for a while.

I use MusicBakery.com for all my video music If I had money to spend on that, I'd use their music, too. It's awesome. But you have to pay to use it. Unless you don't? You may know something that I do not.
