Hey there! My name is Speckley, also called Erin. I am one of the newer members of the administrative team on The Moon. I joined the forums around February 26th, just before the move over to Proboards, and have been trying to be active ever since. But this isn't an introduction thread. ( This is.) I am here to tell you something: ever since I became an admin, I have been afraid to post. In fact, my heart is pounding while I type this. My hands are shaking whenever I stop. At first, this was only a silly thing to be afraid of. I was worrying too much about how much of an impact some of my posts would make. Before April 1st ( when Sarah, Dimstow, and I were announced as admins), I always tried to make well-thought posts. After that, I was over-thinking my posts. Pretty silly, huh? Now, I feel like I have more of a reason to be afraid to post. I am legitimately intimidated by how some of the members of the moon have been treating the admins. A few of the people who frequent the main PogoTribe Skype Chat can tell you, right after new admins were announced, I said "I am a person before I am an administrator. I would appreciate it if you didn't treat me any differently than you did before." This still holds true. Admins are people, not robots. We have emotions, we make mistakes, we're not perfect. Please don't let your idealizations about what an administrator is/does get in the way of how you treat us. =) And while we're on the subject, I'd like to put in my two cents about "admin secrecy." The reason we keep some secrets is because, most of the time, we are discussing things that don't need to be made public. Either that, or we are planning things to better improve the forum, or discussing drama that has risen on the forum itself. We want to make this a positive, nurturing environment for ideas, and for people to come together as a community. At least half of the stuff that we discuss would cause unnecessary drama (and possibly flame wars) if we made it public.

Very well said, m'dear. :]
While I cannot say I am afraid to post, I am quite upset with the way the admins are being treated. :/ THE MOON's community singlehandedly (as far as I know anyway, because I really cannot trace it back to anything else) destroyed my mood for a few days last week, and that is just not okay.
I honestly feel like the admins aren't getting the same respect from some members as other people on the site (not that other members actually treat us with more respect). It's upsetting. You guys are supposed to trust our decisions... it's not fun to be questioned on every move you make when you are only doing your job.
Sad Bree is sad.

Don't be afraid to post.
I will still treat you no different than when you were a member.
I know I am a harsh poster and I do come off really mean sometimes (sometimes intentional, sometims not). Don't you dare be afraid to voice your opinion and what you have to say. Please note that while I don't appear to care at all what people think on certain issues, I really do. I want my opinon to be heard, and I want your opinion to be heard as well.
Also, drama is going to happen. That's just part of life. You can't go through it with everyone being how you want them to be. People will be people. I will be myself. You will be yourself. If there were no bumps in the road, I would figure that there would be zero progress with anything.
Due to my laziness and short attention span, I have decided not to read your lengthy post. <3

If my suggestion had anything to do with this, please let me know. Other than that I don't wish anyone harm.
Keep safe.

Awwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /me hugs everyone I'm sorry Erin and Bree! <33333333 Yeah, I've been hearing a lot of unnecessary criticism, put in destructive words, which has been quite upsetting. I think people should be reminded that the admins will listen if you put a concern nicely, and you don't have to scream insults (exaggeration) to get their attention. Also, people need to accept that the admins' have the power, but try to be as fair as possible, and that rule is needed for progress. <3333333333333333
EDIT: I'm not sure if that was coherent at all... basically: "I WUB YOUZ!!!!!! <33333333333333333333"

I apologize for anything I have and will ever do to make you feel afraid. The same goes for making you angry. I hope you can feel better posting around here. You shouldn't have to have guts of steel to post here. (how you could have one I don't know, surgery?) best wishes!-me

don't be afraid to post - we are still a tribe and you are still a tribe member. Your $0.02 is worth as much as anyone else's and everyone is eager to hear it, I'm sure.

Awwww, Erin. I've seen the posts you've been making lately, and I think you're doing a great job as an admin! You shouldn't be afraid to post anything. I don't think there were anything wrong with your posts before you were an admin, so there's no point in worrying about that now. I know you (and anyone else, for that matter) won't always be right, but I really don't think that that's something you have to worry about. And I know that you're a person :3

Not to sound heartless or anything, but being an admin is a choice. There is nothing forcing you to do it, you choose to do it. I, personally, try my best not to criticize in a non-constructive manner, but the fact is that people are humans. If you don't like what it entails, then you don't have to do it, but it is a privilege. By no means should you ever feel afraid to post, but, honestly, being an admin does draw attention to yourself (and the warning levels and extra decorations of your usernames probably doesn't help blending in.) If you hold true to the ideals of the tribe though, there's no reason to be afraid to post, though. Admins are admins, however, and people are always going to be envious or curious of what goes on in adminland. There have been certain posts by admins, too, claiming--even though more than likely jokingly--it is *all that* and what not, which is not going to help put down this flame war. Both users and admins are contributing to the list of reasons for post anxiety, and both sides need to have some improvements on the way things are handled, but, in all reality, admins are the ones with more power and more ability to enact these improvements.

SPECKLEY, BREE, KARSON, sarahendipity, Frejman, Cortney, aajames.
On my time on SPOTM, I have learned to love my admins. And to TRUST THEM.
I trust you for your decision to pick Karson. I do not question the process, and people who are using this as an attempt to attack the admins are attacking the moon directly. They are terrorists among them. I believe an attack on one is an attack on all.
And I am now afraid too. I have watched this grow, and I know that I am not an admin, but seeing how you guys were attacked, I felt it too. I felt the stability of our tribe shaking beneath my feet. Whatever the admins decide, I am on your side... But I can see, and I am sure you guys can see, people who are against the interests of the tribe.
I am not advocating kicking these people out, but if it is done, I will not complain, but I do think that something needs to be done, when someone is purposely posting things that are hurtful, it affects the whole tribe.
I think we should trust our admins, unless they are: 1. Blatantly unfair, 2. Elitists in some way. 3. Lead the tribe to the ground
In my opinion, they seem to have given everyone a fair chance to be an admin. In my opinion they participate in projects and forums just like the rest of us. And I never had an admin ignore me. They always deleted things I needed deleted, and encouraged me with projects. And on the third note, the admins have been leading the tribe through many discussions. I know Speckley has been more than perfect when i speak to her as an admin, and in building the community (yes, I speckley's self proclaimed fanboy).
I think admins main role is to move the tribe forward. AND THEY HAVE BEEN DOING IT DILIGENTLY, Intelligently, and Creatively.
They have not failed us, but the recent questioning of their admin application process is an attack on the tribe itself, in my opinion. I am scared too. When can we actually get things done without being attacked?

Erin!! Oh, Erin! <3333 Onoes. Oh nonono. I hate that a couple people's complaints about prefferential treatment has blown up into what people see as people hating all the admins. I don't like where this has gone. Not at all. SO: Erin, Speckley, Speckles, Dahling, I love you and I don't think you did everything wrong. Also, I see where you're coming from on the being afraid thing, you're in the spotlight, even if you share it with 8 other people. But, we've talked about this before. Please don't be afraid to post, even though I would do the same thing in the same situation. I would try to think of it this way: a small sentence of "I really like this idea!" from an admin, while this is sort of discontinuous with the "treat us the same as all other members" thing, it's going to be really validating. so, yeah. <3 you! I, at least, won't judge you a bit for posting.

Both users and admins are contributing to the list of reasons for post anxiety, and both sides need to have some improvements on the way things are handled, but, in all reality, admins are the ones with more power and more ability to enact these improvements. I am not dismissing any of these points. When I applied to be an admin, I was fully aware of what I was choosing to apply for. And it took me a few days to make that choice. I sat down and thought about the responsibility I would be taking. (EDIT: Please don't misunderstand what I am saying here. It implies that I knew I was going to be picked: I can assure you, I didn't know until just before the announcement was made.) I was aware (and am still aware), that being an admin draws people's attentions.* People are going to idealize the role, people are going to be jealous, people are going to be curious about what is going on behind the scenes. And I'm not trying to ignore what is happening on both sides of the current debates/discussions, both onstage and off, either. I just wanted to throw in my two cents, and let you guys know how I feel about the situation. That's it. Some people may think that I'm being too optimistic about this, but I am absolutely positive that we will get through this.** Once we do, we, as a tribe, will be more prepared to handle this kind of thing in the future. It fits right with the phrase, "that which does not kill us, makes us stronger." * - Most of the reasoning I see behind the "flashy names" is to make it easier for members to find/see which admins are online, and to bring their questions, concerns, and comments to them as quickly as possible. For the most part, admins are just having a little fun with it. I don't think it should help or hinder anyone's opinion of us as people. ** - Granted, there may be a few casualties to The Moon's member count. If it happens, it happens. *shrug*

When you say it *shouldn't* hinder or help anyones abilities, after 4 years of social psychology classes, I can tell you that, like it or not, it probably will.
While I do recognize that most of the criticism came from members that were predisposed towards being hypercritical of your choices, I feel that some of the cause lies on the users of this forum initially posing serious questions, and receiving facetious answers from admins. When I read those first couple of responses by the admins I, personally, felt a bit of a loss of trust.
