I have no idea what to say when people compliment me. I usually just stare. I don't feel like I have to thank them for saying something that is true, but saying "Yeah, I agree, I'm pretty cool" doesn't sound good either.

Says "Thanks." or compliment them back. Don't be an ass. I can't compliment them back if they don't deserve a compliment. And thanking someone for stating a fact sound weird. That's my problem. Do I have to say "thank you" just because they complimented me, altough what they said was an obvious fact that anyone could notice?

When someone gives you a compliment then say thank you (because they noticed).
If you know them well then give them a complement even if just stating something not so special, if you don't know them well then just follow it with something like "I try", or "but Its nothing special", be humble...
that way you are not being hypocrite and you are still being polite

Ha ha "I can't compliment them when they don't deserve a compliment." You genuinely don't see anything good whatsoever in these people?
If you don't want to be humble you could say "Thanks, i worked really hard on it."

Lol, just show some humbleness! If you are truly flattered by their compliment, you should know to reply with a simple, "Thanks!". With your attitude, you may as well say, "Thank you, for stating the obvious!" See what I mean?
