Although I used to watch a lot of youtube back in 2006, I only got back into it at the end of 2009. So I haven't been around recently enough to know if there are any major youtube awards that go on. And also - when they are. ...If there aren't any then I think doing our own would be pretty cool, but I'm sure there must be some sort of awards!

Well, on some things they have like "Most viewed today" or "Most subscribed" is that what you are talking about?

I haven't seen YouTube awards in ages... I think they were formally held in 2006/2007, then they just stopped.
I quite liked them. Mostly because it organized some of the greatest videos on YouTube in one place.
I don't know how I feel about them anymore... do such awards really have a place on YouTube?

Like Bree said, I remember there being something like them on Youtube a few years back. Like voting for best channel in a range of categories.

Dan won one, if any of you elders like me watched him back then, for best tutorial. He kept telling us to vote for him, and he was up against Solja Boy. The award can be seen in the background, on his desk, in some of his videos.
I think doing our own would be awesome!

Yeah there were youtube awards in 06/07 then they stopped, as Breepop said. Then they had Youtube Live, which was not a youtube award program but was still great.
It seems like they have stop for now those things.

Best Instructional Video, I think. But yeah, doing our own would be awesome - except I think they may be bias to one particular youtuber.... Dan would probably end up winning categories like "Best Female Youtuber" and "Best Serious Drama". XD

Yes! That's a very good point, Real. I think we should highly consider doing something like this in the future - with a whole load of different categories. If anyone's got any ideas for them?

Maybe base them off of our stated values. (Thinks unreaonably big. etc.) And maybe a big award to the person/video for the most level five person/idea of the year

I'm not actually sure because I didn't watch youtube live! But you sound confident there was awards? But officially they were only in 2006 & 2007. So anyone got any ideas of how we could do future youtube awards because it doesn't seem like youtube has got any plans for anymore?

I think the only way something like this would work is if you had a partnership with youtube.
However IF you could get them to buy in it would be amazing.
I would think it could even be fairly simple to have prominate youtuber (say 7-11 of them) to nominate who they think should be for each catagory and then let the public vote.
Catagories 1. Best over all channel 2. Best daily vlog 3. Best colaboration channel 4. Best instructional channel 5a. Best Large channel 5b. Best Mid sized channel 5c. Best Small channel (the channel size would be determined yearly for each catagory) other than that use the youtube catagories. 6. Best Entertainment channel 7. Best Gaming channel 8. blah 9. blah 10. blah
Then for the award to win them all it would be the Youtuber of the year that is open to everybody.
Do a simple majority vote rule and call it good!

That's a great idea! But who says you need to contact youtube to make it official - as long as you got the large communities (pogotribe/nerdfighters/smosh forum etc.) involved then people will notice! And what about awards for videos?
But I like the idea of getting a prominent youtuber to get the nominations!

Is it possible for this to be moved to "Projects"? I feel things might go more productively there.
