There are always people who believe things because they were raised to believe them. It's not just Christians (and not all Christians are like this). They are essentially the zombies.

This is so true. I'm actually a Christian and I see this way too often in my religious class. I don't really believe half the stuff I'm taught.. but no one else even questions it because they can't think for themselves

I just want to say that a perfect world would be near impossible. Why? The answer is quite simple. We live in a world where leaders are needed, for better or for worse. Leaders are needed for the simple fact that not everyone is NOT a zombie. Lets say that a zombie is a sheep, ie, a person that follows, but if we werent all zombies, then we must all be leaders in our society, or independant thinkers. The reason zombies are needed in our society, is mainly for the fact that zombies dont fight, they follow and only follow, sure, sometimes the leaders trick and force the zombies to follow them into a fight of arguement, but imagine if we all were leaders or independant thinkers. We would continuosly squabble. Sure, independant thinkers are needed to fight with each other to find the middle ground in an argument, ie, to find the truth. So in conclusion to my rather hurriedly written comments, i just want to say the reason a perfect world is unattainable, is because in a perfect world, being sensible and independant thinkers would lead to even more disagreements and unfriendliness than we already have. We need a good dose of both zombies and leaders. Sorry about the typos.

I don't like zombies. It's not how we're programmed to function. As an aspiring teacher, a scientist, a Christian: there is no room in my life for antagonism or apathy. As a scientist I seek answers to questions about the universe, I want to know more. What I learn just shows God's amazing handiwork. As a teacher, I want to share what I learn. It's important that future generations go out into the world know what we know, seeking to know more and applying it. As a Christian, I seek to know God and myself. I want to be the best person he has made me and be a light in this world. I could go on but this is my view in a nutshell. I go into more detail in my blog if you'd like to see: Of Rain and Orchids: On Faith and Science.

If you have come to the conclusion by your own methods that you agree, then you are not a zombie. If you say, "Oh! Whatever Person X says, I'm going to agree with it," then you are a zombie. Just because you agree with someone doesn't make you a zombie. EDIT: I hate IE.

OK ZAkATaK, now i must say that i totally and absolutely agree with you (and im not zombie !!! ) When someone encourages you to think about something, it doesnt mean that you are accepting his arguments as a fact. We all have right to defend our way of thinking and to present it as true. Just keep posting dude, because your awesome !!

After reading through this, I can assume that most people agree that being a zombie isn't the best way to go about things. Following something just because you're too lazy, or too blind to form your own opinions is wrong? Maybe. I agree that sometimes it's bad to be a zombie, people should have their own opinions, and should be well informed if they're going to take something seriously. But not everyone wants to take everything seriously either. Some people simply do not care about things, because not everyone can care about everything. Therefore, there are situations where it is okay to follow blindly. I'm not going to get into faith, because that's a whole other subject, when it comes to following blindly HOWEVER! I also do not believe it is okay to force yourself to not be a zombie. You shouldn't go against society, just to prove a point, you should shun conformity because you want to stand out. You should follow exactly what you believe, and that will put you in the place that you're supposed to be.

Global warming isn't real. Ah now you can't say global waring isn't real! However I think a better term for it is global climate change. There is a lot of evidence to support the theory that it is happening. To say just flat out that global warming isn't real is a bit of a Zombie-ism imho

I guess to reword it: Global warming isn't new.

yeah that's better lol but it is an issue that I think we're finally getting to the point where we have the ability to at least try and make some sort of difference. So theJourney does have a point that we need to have functional brains to try overcome these issues
