''Boom''. Mom just dropped the bomb on me. ''No internet after 9PM''
And I honestly god mad. I'm not your ''average'' teenager who's balance between hating or loving their parents is in horrible un-balance. I've been raised to be more mature. But this is the first time I actually got mad at my mom.
She's doing this because I won't get up in the morning, and blaming the internet.
To all you teenagers/Ex-Teenagers: How can I make my mom understand that practically -every- teenager is tired. even if they're not staying up late.
To the tribe: How do I explain to my mom that internet is the most wonderful thing ever and that I can learn more from the internet instead of going to bed earlier and ''managing'' to not miss the first 2-5 minutes of school.
And to all you parents: What restrictions do you put on your teenagers and why?
Thanks to everyone who answered, I just needed to tell this to someone. And I felt that this is what the tribe is made for. Helping and understanding other people.

Hm.. I think you need to focus on what the source of your sleeping in is. If you can find the source of your sleeping issue, you won't need to convince your mom. Also, don't wait for your mom to set boundaries for you, set them yourself.

A teenager's circadian clock is pushed forward from everyone else's. So explain to her that this is why you don't like going to sleep.. It's not your fault A for "the internet is a wonderful thing," I don't want to tell you how to support that if you don't actually use the internet for good. I myself spend a lot of time online watching TEDTalks and studying, so if I were making the argument for myself, I could say that. But I wouldn't want to give a genereal answer that you can say applies to you even though it doesnt.

[This isn't extremely helpful, but hey, in case you need somebody else to say it] I'm a teenager and I'm ALWAYS tired. I've even gone to sleep at 7 p.m. and woken up a 6:30 in the morning and I'm still tired. No amount of sleep can make me un-tired.

During teenage years, The brain is changing. Thus, the circadian rhythms are messed up(these effect your sleeping and other things). People grow out of this when their circadian rhythms stabilizes around age 21. Science ftw

And this. Is why I love the tribe. Thanks for the positive respones people. And thank you Chelsea for telling me this, and also Rob for the links ;D I'm going to study this subject some more. So I could have my restrictions ''lightened'' to the least.

I don't think this temporary stage of fatigue in your life should be an excuse to not fit in with society.

Heh xD same problem, nice to meet ya. For me, it was a problem never solved. Fatigue + short memory problem = NEVER early... Plus, in the end it really (sadly) turned out school wasn't for me =\ I'm hoping that isn't the case for you. Good thing about being early for school is that it makes it a lot more easier to work your way around teachers if you're always early. Early is one of the keys. Then you can con for anything >D Of course... don't follow my advice, youngins )_)

Honestly, sleeping more gave me a big boost in energy because I stopped sleeping during classes. My laptop is a big reason as to why I stay up as late as I do. It could be the circadian clock, but if you have less than 7 hours of sleep, it's most probably just a deprivation of sleep. The importance of coming on time instead of 2-5 minutes late is to become fluent at being punctual, because in the future that will be your responsibility, and not coming on time will be a bigger problem with worse consequences when you grow up.

I agree that ofcourse begin on time or even early is a great thing.
But because of teenagers Circadian clock. The entire problem of tired teenagers at school would be easily solved.
Move the school 1-2 hours.
My mom actually told me that there were a few schools that actually started later and went futher into the afternoon. And that would be -perfect- for me, Seeing as I'm a B person. Unfortunately... there is none in my area.

Oh God. Really, guys? I don't mean to be the buzzkill, but you can't blame your lack of discipline to wake up in the mornings on adolescent circadian rhythms! Sure, the science is there, but it doesn't stop the reliable people that work third shift. Don't be the stupid teenagers that adults complain about!

haha this made me laugh because last night my mom randomly told me that I need to get off the computer at 9:30 pm. I'm usually awake until 11 or 12 so it was kinda out of the blue. since the start of senor year my folks backed off on the usual comp curfew. My trick was getting up early. Yes it sucks but by getting up earlier you prove that you can stay up late. Now if your mom is like my mom she probably wont give in for a while, so it's battle of the wills... (take a nap after school so that you can wake up on time without passing out) If nothing else works you could simply go to sleep for a few days at 7 pm and still sleep in...that would prove your point another way...

My only advice with the sleeping issue, in the morning do two things:
1) Eat anything apple. Juice, sause, fruit. It's a great source of MEGA NATURAL CAFFEINE
2) Get this app on the iPhone/Touch called Get High Now (I know it sounds illegal, but it's not) it's a bunch of audio/visual illusions. One of them is called Binural Beats, what it is is two tones played at the same time, making your brain work to your advantage, there's one I use every day called Wakeful SuperPower, and it does what it says, wakes you up.
With this, I'm completely fine while my other teenager peers are falling asleep every second.

Mom's tend to have a need to lay down the law. And once that law is laid, that SHIRT ain't going nowhere! You'll have to find a solution that beats the system. So this is how you fix it:
Forget about internetting at night. That SHIRT's overrated. Sleep extra early, like at 8PM. That way you can wake up at 3AM to get your internet fix. This is also going to do three things: stop you from breaking that internet curfew, show mom how responsible you are, and ensure you're awake and ready for school.
Now I know sleeping at 8PM is going to be a problem because naturally you won't want to sleep that early. So you're gonna want to chug half a bottle of nyquil each night because: a)it'll help you sleep and b) it's going to make your head feel awesome.
There you have it. Even if you don't use my suggestions, find a solution quick. Because trust me, if you don't get that much demanded sleep soon, mom's gonna start putting sleeping pills in your chicken nuggets.

No. EDIT: I changed the quote to the paragraph about chugging Nyquil (?!). That SHIRT just don't jive. Not trying to be a troll

Be nice. Anyway, in relation to this thread, I do agree with Trey's first post. Your mom sets rules for you for a reason, and you should set them yourself (you'd have more control in the long run). I don't care what anybody says about your circadian clock, going to sleep earlier will make waking up on time easier. Staying up late just makes your teenage sleeping disadvantage WORSE. Hate to break it to you, but your mom has a point.

man atleast u can sneak internet time ... late at night /early hours of the morning. i was at boarding school, the internet shut off at 11pm no exception and didnt turn on till 6am and it had all video/games/social networking/www.school-unblock.com type sites blocked... well one exception using a tunneling program but that breaks both school and federal law, so i didn't use it too often. but yea the whole sleep thing is bonkers, cause in my last yr of school i got about 5 hours of sleep every night and i was as tired asif i had 10 hours of sleep + nodo's.
