So I'm going to play devil's advocate for a second...
I've been scratching my head for a while trying to figure out how meekakitty got so popular. I don't mean to badmouth her, I'm sure she's a great person; I'm looking at this objectively.
Seriously, she has never once said anything that has either made me laugh or made me think. She's just...some chick...who talks about rather mundane things with little to no creative entertainment value.
My 2 cents, Just had to get that off my chest. Discuss.

I watched one of her vids, wasn't impressed, didn't subscribe. I don't know what's been of her since then.

I really really like her. She's like a red-haired bouncy ball. And yes, she just has famous youtube-friends.

It's something along the lines of positivity and comical expressionism.
Those are two things that attract a majority's attention. Sure the attention doesn't last long. I mean, for me personally, I eventually stopped clicking the update links, but her comical and incredibly out-there attitude which was never negative is definitely what got her popular. People want to be around that kinda person, and plenty watch her hoping that kinda personallity will rub off on them.
I found her fascinating at first )_) but that's my opinion. Take it or leave it.

I love meekakitty I'm not sure why, though. I mean, her videos just keep me entertained for some reason.

agreed, I think she's dull. Doesn't mean I think she's not a great person or anything.

I actually remember watching one of her videos when she was still doing the whole "Live From Hong Kong" thing when she first put her channel up. I stopped watching, and then, a year later, I suddenly found her Fire Fox video, which had hundreds of thousands of views.

Many people become big on Youtube by being someone a large number of people wish were their boyfriend/girlfriend/best-friend/sibling/parent/teacher/weird uncle.

One thing that a lot of people fail to realize about YouTubers is that different YouTubers appeal to different demographics. That's the cool thing about new media-- you don't have to have something that appeals to everybody-- you just need to have something that appeals to your niche! Tessa has her niche and while she's certainly gotten a boost from Ray, she's still a real role model to a lot of people.
In the same way that I don't badmouth teletubbies just because I don't watch it, I don't badmouth other YouTubers just because their stuff doesn't appeal to me.

I'm sure what most people don't realize is that many people make videos for themselves and worry about viewers after. After all, sometimes people are only mundane with mundane hobbies. Not everyone is a comedian or a artist... I, on the other hand, enjoy her videos. Maybe I'm mundane? xP
