What are some good ways to handle depression? reaching out is a great way to start and you're doing that. there is a difference between being very sad and clinical depression. please check with a trusted physician if it goes on for many weeks, if you're not sleeping, not eating, not finding any joy in things that usually make you happy. i am happy to talk with you if talking/writing helps.

Thanks for the responses guys, they are appreciated. And blkfrhwk, this has been going on for quite some time, however it's not gotten to the point where I'm not eating or sleeping. I have thought about killing myself a number of times though; not considered it, but thought about it. Does that make sense? I'm positive that I will never actually kill myself, but all the stuff that's been going on has put the idea in the front of my mind before.

Talk to people. I think this is a good step in the right direction already, if you ever need someone to talk to.. Just PM me. I'm OK with that

i think that most sensitive people have thought about suicide at least once in their lives. it's good to know that it is not a serious consideration for you. i am not a doctor, but i do know that brain chemistry can go into weird feedback loops. that's why i asked about seeing a physician. sometimes a trauma kicks things off, you don't talk to anyone, you spiral and your brain sort of resets in this new low place with not enough of the proper neurotransmitters.
i can tell you from my own experience that time outdoors helped and forcing myself to do something for others who had less going for them than i did also helped. nothing was instantaneous, but it took the edge off.

Thanks a whole bunch, all of you; even the little things help. Unfortunately in order to see a physician I'd have to get my parents to take me, and I'd rather not get them in on this, because they would overreact way too much. I hate being sad and frustrated in general, but it's not like I'm super super depressed; it's still at the point where I feel confident I can handle this with a relatively small amount of help. And so far I am doing fine. Going outside for a while would probably be a good idea though.

i personally find solace in nature. creeks, birds, plants, even rocks. sometimes in the city, if i just remember to look for the moon or watch the shapes of the clouds, i feel more connected and i can breathe again.
i hope this helps. i'll check in again soon.

I really do appreciate all the responses; thing are looking better, though they often do that and then drop right down again a few days later. It's kind of an on-and-off thing.

What worked for me, was finding something I could get really good at, and then becoming awesome at that one thing. Then I was able to really always pride myself in that, and because for me it was my art, it also always gave on outlet for my feelings. Actually, the stuff I've made when I felt sad has been some of my best work.
