I was thinking, since Dan was taking a more active part in the SPOTM community, that Dan should go undercover.
What I mean by this is that if Dan takes the role of a "Noob" Where he just blends into the forum and we don't know who he really is, that could really help us get to level 4. Think about it, when Dan posts on a thread, most people might freak out as if you were a teenage girl who was just hugged by Justin Bieber, Edward from Twilight, and all three of the Jonas brothers AT THE SAME TIME.
If we want to get to the "We're Great" mentality, we need to stop all things related to superiority. First of which not thinking Dan as a celebrity (look at my SPTOM Goal Thread) and see him more as a person.

/disagree. By not posting, Dan would seem superior. It makes him isolated from the community, like he's too good for us.. By posting more frequently, he makes himself seem like a normal member. Sure, the way people react is too fanboy/girl-ish, but I don't think that his not posting would fix that. If he posted more, people would start to take it for granted that he posts, and it wouldn't be a big deal anymore.

Well maybe he could have two accounts? that wouldnt be that hard. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Why should he create two accounts? That will not stop the fanboism!!! It doesn't deal with the problem it ignores it! In that case, lets just make Dan Brown be undercover 24/7 and never show his face to the pogotribe again! You gotta tell me you were joking when you made this statement!

I don't understand why you'd want him to have 2 accounts... My point was Dan Brown would seem less superior only is he posted more from his own account... sure, he could do that, as well as create a "noob account," but that just seems pointless, because it would just slow his progress of seeming like a normal member on his Dan Brown account.

Maybe he could use the noob account only in situations where he feels his opinion will totally sway a discussion/argument in a negative way?

Dan could use his regular account for announcements, and if he needs to make an official statement on a thread. But if he is just joining a conversation on the Moon he should go into "Noob Mode"

I completely agree with helmet, this is a great idea. As a matter of fact I suggested it a long time ago in the old forum. Who knows, maybe he has been doing since or even before then. It would alleviate the tension created by the weight of his statements (which, even if he posted more on his normal account, would still carry power for those new members that arrive in the moon every now and then), and allow him to post his ideas and opinions more openly.

*cough*Bruce*cough* ?
but seriously.. looking at Dan as a "normal" person, is something you and only you should work on.. You need to view it like that and not have Dan make a "noob" account..
If you see Dan's posts here and don't think; omg he's right, do it!.. then you're going the good way..
But by just suggesting he needs to make noob accounts would just be relocating a "problem" instead of dealing with it
so no new accounts..!

As Jon said...rather enthusiastically...this would be ignoring the problem. There would still be worshipping. You guys need to get to the point where Dan can post and it has no more weight than when an admin posts (because that's what he really is: an admin). Nobody freaks out when I post. XD
Creating a new account just ignores the problem completely and isn't the way to go if you're trying to get to level 4.

I understand where you guys are coming from. It would be better if we could completely solve the problem, and most likely for those of us who spend lots of time here in the moon it does become less of a surprise when Dan posts.
That being said, we do get many new members each week, and only come around periodically. Which means that they might not become as easily adjusted to the chance as the rest of us would.
Still, even if this was implemented it would be better if we didn't know about it. Specially since after such an announcement we would all be wondering who Dan was.
So in conclusion I'll just keep quiet and expect what needs to be done will be done and trust that decisions like such are not taken lightly. ;D

AMAGA ITS CORTNEY, QUICK DO WHAT SHE SAYS. *cough* anyway. I understand where you guys are coming from. I think the more active of us are pretty uh.. un-neurotic about Dan. But there's still gonna be people who take his word as truth which could be bad in arguments. It'd be annoying not to be able to reply to something you have an opinion on just cause of the weight people put on you. That said, it's really up to him. It's his right to free speech.

You gotta tell me you were joking when you made this statement! Sarcasm, I miss the button. Can we impliment it on here? But to acctually further the conversation, when Dan posts, I don't get all excited. If it is a discussion, I would get as excited as when I see jmejia(Do you like that or John?) post, not because Im a fanboy, but because I think they have really good opinions, and I like hearing what they have to say. With that said, I pay a little more attention when Dan posts on a project thread, because 1) It might give a clue to the SP so I try examining it(This will go away once it is announced) 2) Because Dan and the admins have the best understanding of what direction the tribe should be going in, because they have more sway. So in that case, I pay more attention to Dan, but I do with all admins. I have said before I want Dan to be able to leave it to the admin s, but I dont want him to leave. He should be able to come down and participate in the community like a member. On the issue of n00bs, I think that if they are that much of a Fanboy, they wont become a hardcore member, so thats okay. And if they do become a hardcore, then they (Hopefully) will see that this isnt Youtube Dan. This is Dan, the 20 year old from Lincoln, Nebraska that just happens to have a popular youtube account.

I think we all agree that we need to try to decrease the fanboy/girl-dom on SPOTM, but I just don't think having Dan post less would solve that.. It would only worsen the problem.. Really, I think the best way to get people to stop obsessing over Dan is to just embrace them as a member of the tribe. Take me, for example. Why did I join SPOTM? Because I was a fangirl. But once I started getting involved and realized what the tribe was about, I stopped caring so much about Dan. And now I try to help other people do the same... I think if we want to decrease the fangirl/boy-dom, the best thing we can do is to individually make people feel welcome to the tribe..

Wow, it takes a lot of guts to admit that. I am proud of you Should we start the antifanboism coalition? And if we do, can I still be Speckleys fan boi? Agreed. If everyone does there part it will work. But I cannot individually make EVERYONE feel welcome. Only some people who I see.
