Deja vu

I get deja vu ALL THE TIME. More often though, I get what I call "reverse deja vu," if only for lack of a better term. It's not actually the reverse of deja vu.
Okay, so there will have been a moment in my life when I thought, one day I'll be looking back on this moment. Usually I thought that because I couldn't wait for that moment to be over, but sometimes it's because I realized at the time that the moment was important. Anyway, so then here I am today, reflecting on that moment. Then I begin to reflect on the fact that I thought one day I would be reflecting on that moment. So I'm not only reflecting on the moment (as I thought back then that I would), but I'm also reflecting on the fact that I thought I would be reflecting on the moment.
That's what I call "reverse deja vu." It's actually extremely unsettling.

I sometimes have deja vu about having deja vu. I think, whoa deja vu, and the deja vu is about having a deja vu while doing what ever i was doing that caused the deja vu in the first place. make sense?
What causes deja vu anyway?

@pjpinc while I'm not positive, I'm pretty sure deja vu is caused by a rapid misfire of neurons in your brain which instead of storing an experience as short term memory, gives you the sensation that you are recalling the experience as though it was stored in long term memory. (this could be explained by the fact that short term memory is an isolated chunk of the brain, while long term memory is stored throughout.
I get deja vu and presque vu all of the time (but never at the same time haha)

I was told by a music theory teacher last summer that deja vu consists of tiny snipits of dreams surfacing in real life. Not sure if I believe it but....
