Hey I have an idea for a project, I'm just wanting all of your opinions on it I have seen quite a lot of projects dedicated to building up the community, this is great, however, my project would require the involvement of the community but is based outside of it
Climate change is an issue, and often it can be an overwhelming problem to try and tackle I want to try and do my bit I want to start up a tree planting project I'm going to ask every member who wants to get involved to plant a tree. It can be any sort of tree and you can plant it anywhere I will then ask them to send me a picture of said tree, and I will create something out of these pictures, and I will do something with what I create haha Obviously I haven't worked out all the details yet But do you think people will care enough to get involved? I mean all I'm asking for is one tree But perhaps people need an incentive Any thoughts?

I think this would be great if it was run like the Million Giraffes project. If you haven't heard of it, look it up. You could set a goal for the amount of trees you want to be planted and set up a website for it. Let's say you want 150 trees planted total. You could set up a website and display a picture of each tree planted.

People would like the idea, but honestly, I don't think so. Maybe you could try out an ecology forum and ask around there. You could ask people to post pictures of trees they've planted to give you a starting point.

This was essentially completed for Hank Green's birthday. I'm not saying this to dissuade you, but rather demonstrate how this could be conducted, and inspire you to try. There are a number of people on SPOTM, Nerdfighters and other places who would happily plant more trees for the good of our world. I doubt anyone only planted their tree to be in the video. And the world could always use more trees...

If you kept this project exclusive to SPOTM, you probably wouldn't get all the participation you wanted. However, you could always post around on other places in addition to SPOTM, and make your end goal including submissions from ALL those forums/social websites/whatever. I, personally, would gladly participate in something like this.

I would participate in this, but not necessarily a tree, (maybe a smaller house plant). Maybe you could make a points system out of the plants that people planted, and have some company who agrees with you to give out some prize to people that make a certain amount of points.

We tried this project and it's didn't work out too well.. Or at all. But luck to you! I already planted my tree, so I am already one tree you can mark off!

I love this idea, but I don't really like trees. This past year I have planted hundreds of plants. Not all of them have survived, but I do have an interesting Day lily collection. You can view the collection here: www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2202227&id=6908664&l=73d6f0688cAnd here: www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2201178&id=6908664&l=8317c293d3I also have another folder of pictures on facebook with just flowers from my garden, not daylilies specifically. I think this is a great idea for a project, but trees are expensive to plant. Try another type of annual! Or just any annual plants will do. Then maybe you might get more support!

one thing you want to do this around the high time of the planting season... its now the hottest part of the summer or the coldest depending on what side of the equator your on. you want to do this around spring or fall (again depending on your side of the world) however this is an interesting idea. i plant vegeables flowers and shrubs in my yard and friends places. i would have no problem adding a tree to the mix next year.. (i would go with a fruit bearing tree just cause i like to get something out of it)
you never want to start planting in june it just fries saplings and you need to constantly water them.it is truly best to start in the late spring.
start this again next year around april and i will be totaly in...

I like the tree idea, and I would definetly plant a tree if you did it, but perhaps you could also do a start-a-garden thing? Like, if the tree project works, maybe notch it up to plant a couple flowers around the tree. Beautification. ;D
