Truth is the absence of lies and lies are the absence of Truth. In the Bible, Jesus says that he is the Truth among other things. I happen to be an incredible liar. I could tell you the world is flat and get you to believe it maybe a slight hyperbole there. I once made up an entire story about something that wouldn't happen it sounded completely illogical and yet EVERYONE believed me that I told it to. I shirt you not. They did a lot of shirt testing on me though and I never gave up my position (even though I did fill one person in just to test her reaction but that's another story). Little bit of a tangent there, but I think you get the jist of what I'm getting at.

Truth is a fact that can be proven.
I dunno if it can be made any clearer.

Truth is a fact that can be proven. I dunno if it can be made any clearer. And what is a fact that can be proven? It's a fact corresponding to the truth. Nice circular reasoning you did there...

Truth can be taken two ways:
1. Accurate information about the natural world. There is no circular logic here; scientists fully admit that even their most certain proofs are only 99.999999% likely. Sometimes we incorrectly use the word truth because we didn't know something was false. This doesn't mean that other things aren't true/false, just that we don't always know which is which or get it right.
2. The honesty of a statement. (Opposite of lie.) You can say a person is telling the truth and mean that they are not intentionally lying, even if they are incorrect. For example, if a person mistakenly thought that Suspect A stole a sandwich and said so, he was being truthful in that he honestly believed that, even though he was incorrect in his accusation.

the truth is what you honestly believed happened. it may be inacurate, or wrong, but it depends on what the person has seen done ect.
is this making sense to you?

# a fact that has been verified; "at last he knew the truth"; "the truth is that he didn't want to do it" # conformity to reality or actuality; "they debated the truth of the proposition"; "the situation brought home to us the blunt truth of the military threat"; "he was famous for the truth of his portraits"; "he turned to religion in his search for eternal verities" # accuracy: the quality of being near to the true value; "he was beginning to doubt the accuracy of his compass"; "the lawyer questioned the truth of my account" # United States abolitionist and feminist who was freed from slavery and became a leading advocate of the abolition of slavery and for the rights of women (1797-1883) ;D

There are 3 truths in our world. Your truth, my truth and the truth. (I saw this quote on my English teacher's wall. I think it sums everything up.)

Truth is a statement that most people agree upon the veracity of. Where the commonly approved truth could be The United States of America is a sovereign country, someone else's truth could be that it is not. Because the other person is in the minority, the truth becomes that the USA is a sovereign country and the minority opinion becomes a lie.
Truth is in the viewpoint of the beholder as well. Where someone may say something that they consider a truth, the opposition could say that it is not. This example occurs most often in politics, any debate, or in any situation where at least two sides are in disagreement.

Truth is nonexistent. Everything in life is subjective, and we are limited by solipsism and our inability to see through other people's perspectives.
"Your truth" and "my truth" are not truths, they are opinions. "The truth" can never be confirmed. Many things we label as "the truth" are just proven from a human perspective, which is not the objective perspective needed to clearly define and understand the truth.

Cortney you're right on all accounts but one - the first one Truth is existent, human truth is subjective and we are limited by what we can observe and understand as humans. There is no such thing as "your truth" and "my truth" they are only opinions and have no truth value. "the truth" can never be confirmed because we are limited in understanding and observational powers. things we label as "true" are only proven from a human perspective, and therefore are only mostly true. Anyways, I think truth should be viewed more as a scale anyway. You can say that X is more true than Y, but that neither is exactly true (for the reasons above).

What is black and white and red all over? A blushing zebra, and that is the truth.
I can't go home again unless I find a stone a rose a door and that is the truth.
Choo-choo, and that is the truth.
