I think that we should create subforums of the 'Projects' section for projects that have become very active and require multiple threads.

I think something like this may be needed, but I'm not sure how a subforum would work for it.
Maybe like have it so that the Projects section has a Project discussion subsection? Could work.

How about "Current projects"?

All these sub-forums make my head hurt. They make me want to hurt cute things. Why do we need them?

Maybe if we have a sub section for project ideas, and when they're actually active, put them in the project section...

If we did that people would end up posting in the active projects even if there's only one thread for their project.. and stuff.

There's going to be many threads for my/our project... so maybe a sub-forum would be nice, but I don't see much of a need for one.

Maybe you could just have one thread for a project? *gasps*
Sorry, I don't see the need for 3 threads for one project. If it's active, it'll stay at the top of the list. If it's inactive, it'll sink.
Personally, I say no sub-forum necessary. At all.

Well, I can understand why you might need more than 1 thread if the project has multiple parts, like the awards needed a thread for nominations and a thread for awards, and Jon's needed more than 1 thread.. but sometimes people abuse that and post a new thread every time something new happens with a project. But anyway, if a project is getting a lot of attention and has a couple of threads, I don't think it's a big deal. It means that that's where most of the attention in the projects section is, so there's no reason for them to be aside in a sub-forum.

Maybe you could just have one thread for a project? *gasps* This idea is way better, of course. Though lots of people don't care about other projects in the Projects section besides their own and aren't conscientious enough to do it. It kinda blows, especially for those projects that may have been decent but were quickly buried. This all really seems like it's just an etiquette thing.

I haven't really seen many unnecessary extra threads. Projects such as the "Who Killed Dan Brown?" game and the SPOTM Awards need those extra threads for voting and increased exposure. Personally, I don't regularly visit the main thread for either of those projects, but actively participated in the sub-threads for them.
If you see a project that makes an extra thread for no reason at all (or for a good reason, but the extra thing could have just as easily been conducted in the original thread), question them as to why they made an extra thread... perhaps they will move back. Or you could even report it, and it may be locked. *shrug*
I think it's worth mentioning that I see increasing exposure to a project as a good reason to make a new thread. If you have 10 freaking pages of planning in the first thread, no one in their right mind [new to the project] is going to even bother visiting that thread. 10 pages is sooo intimidating. If they do bother visiting and posting, they will likely have no grasp of what is going on and their post will contribute diddly. So I definitely think it'd be a good idea to ask for that thread to be locked (when the planning stages or whatever is over), and make a new one summarizing what has been decided.
Perhaps if you could provide some examples of projects that have contributed to burying other threads in the Projects section, I would understand what you mean a bit better?

was just thinking, maybe there could be some functionality added where multiple threads could be sort of, stuck together. so if any of the threads moved up or down in the forum the other ones would move with it. itd only be needed in the projects section..

The active projects' threads could just be pinned. Problem solved.
I believe some already are, too.

no. absolutely not. no more pinned crap...we have enough of that already. as more projects get pinned, new projects will be pushed to the bottom whether they are inactive or not. that is completely ridiculous.
