So, I need some help, PogoTribe. I love horror movies and fiction, and I can't seem to get enough of the scares. I've desperately lurked the internet for signs of any truly horrifying movies that would keep me up all night, but I'v seen no such signs.
I really enjoyed the original Halloween (as well as its remake), a Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. While I didn't find any of them scary, they were a good watch. In terms of more recent films, I found Pontypool, Cloverfield, The Exorcist and 28 Days Later to be thoroughly entertaining and they rank high on my favourite movies list.
However, in terms of movies that have actually managed to scare the pants off of me, I'd have to say that The Strangers and The Ring rank very high on that list. The Ring is one of the few films that have actually managed to give me nightmares for weeks and, to date, is the scariest movie I've ever seen.
What I've been looking for are more great horror films. Preferably ones that don't have that 'camp' factor like the endless Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th sequels. I also can't stand the horror-comedy genre like Evil Dead 2 and Shaun of the Dead. I'm looking for genuinely terrifying, nightmare-inducing movies and not necessarily 'classics'.
Come on, PogoTribe. Hit me with ideas.

I don't know much about movies, but I know where you can find some interesting stuff: Search on CineMassacre's monster madness 2007 and 2009, Cinemassacre.com is a site ran by James Rolfe (mostly known as the Angry Video Game Nerd), every halloween he does the Cinemassacre's Monster Madness and reviews a movie each day of october, so yeah, 62 suggestions right there, reviews included. ( 2008 was a Godzillathon, so I don't know if you want that). I think they are mostly classics and I don't know if those movies are really that scary but I think you could find something good or entertaining there. As an alternative I suggest you to look for japanese horror films, which are known not only for being scary, but also for being down right sick. Seriously, don't watch those unless you really want to be freaked out by enormous amounts of gore (suggestions on this matter: I've heard of some guy called Satoru Ogura, you may find good stuff if you google him)

I never really managed to get scared by movies. Most of the time they are either too boring, or too bloody.
Still, I do want to be proven wrong. So I'll try to get some movies and watch them with friends this weekend. thanks Alex

Paranormal activity, blast the volume watch it at night. The haunting in Connecticut kinda scared me, try that too.
I really love horror movies, but not many have actually scared me. I saw the ring when i was 9, i had trouble falling asleep because i thought that girl was in my room or something lol.

Paranormal Activity didn't even make me squirm. It was a Blair Witch Project spin-off. Blair Witch project wasn't even that good.
Do you like Saw?

Whenever these kinds of things comes up, I try to make a stand for the asian horror genre. Keep in mind that many of the horror movies nowadays tend to go down to a PG-13 rating, which is often a good sign that it isn't a good horror flick =P Concerning the asian horror genre, there's a couple of titles you should check out: * The thai original version of "Shutter"* The japanese original version of "The Ring" (Ringu) - much better than the american version, which, in comparison, is quite "de-horrorized" (which tends to be the case in most american remake series) * The japanese original version of "One Missed Call" (Chakushin ari)* The japanese original versions of the "The Grudge" seriesOther than that, there are a couple of late releases that are really worth checking out; * REC (re-made as "Quarantine") - spanish flick about a reporter that gets unexplainably quarantined inside an apartment building while shooting a reportage... really thrilling and realistic; if you liked 28 days later and The Blair Witch Project, you won't be disappointed. * The Descent - british film about a group of female mountain climbers who decides to go explore some underground caves. Of course, everything doesn't turn out the way they wanted. A must-see, not only because it is well made, but also because it leaves you with more than a couple of scares to digest. * Fragile - From the director of REC (although it came before REC). A horror film set in a child hospital environment. Check it out =) And if you are a horror fan, you should really, really check out the two seasons of the now-closed series Masters of Horror. Contains a series of 1 hour episodes made by guest directors ("masters of horror"), including accomplished names such as Dario Argento (Pioneer of the Italian horror film genre), John Carpenter (Director of for example 80's films The Thing (which is a really cool horror flick), Prince of Darkness and In The Mouth of Madness) and Don Coscarelli (creator of the Phantasm series. While the quality, horror film-wise, of the episodes isn't continuous, it does contain some really good ones. I can go on forever, but I think I'll stop there for now XD Oh and, speaking of Saw, I'd say that while the first movie did provide a fresh idea of a film, and was actually pretty good, the series of sequels are exponentially tedious.

I hate it when people subsitute horror for gore. paranormal activity = *snores* Gore is slowly kinda becoming the new main part of horror films... especially american ones, sadly xD Paranormal Activity probably suffered from the extensive marketing it was subject too. People had too high expectations =P

Shutter Island. I saw it. Oh my Lord. The only scary thing about it might be the little places where you think something is going to jump out at you (I always fall for those myself), or when you're at home and can't sleep, and your mind wanders to the possibility of... Well, I can't say or I would spoil the movie. It's physiological, but amazing. I really want to see it again but watching it alone isn't as fun.
Also, I haven't see it, but Paranormal Activity, I believe there's a second one coming. I saw it on Facebook today :S Greatttt.
Happy scaring!

I watch FEWDIO and DaywaltFearFactory on youtube. They make short horror films. They're pretty good. I don't know many movies though.
