I looked around and couldn't find a thread on it, so I'm assuming it wasn't there. Otherwise, I apologize and hope you can kindly direct me to that thread.
I'm not entirely sure how I personally found out about the conference, but the original idea about tribes by David Logan took place at the TED Conference. I'm sure that many of you have looked into this conference as most of you are "interested in ideas that are attempting to change the world."
For those of you don't know, the TED Conference is a conference where speakers from all over the world come for four days in Longbeach, California and have 18 minutes to share their idea. (That what it says, although I'm pretty sure some people have more or less). There are also musicians, but mainly it is ideas worth hearing. The TED Conference takes pride in the fact it is one of the few places in which you can find the founders of Google and a man trying to find the best type of materials for sustainable living.
I hope to attend the conference someday as I have watched many of the speeches online, the tribe one being one of those.
It helps open narrow minds, and lets you know of ideas out there that are attempting to change perspectives.
Anyone ever attend or wish to do so? Anyone have any speeches that have changed your perspective? Sorry doesn't sound like too much of a discussion, but I love the idea and the actual thing so I figured I could discuss it here.

It is, and will always be, my goal to attend a TED conference. When I saw the speech about what it's like to have a stroke, it got me really interested in the human brain and it's misfires. After a little more research, I decided I wanted to go into a field pertaining to the brain, mind and cognitive process to study it, in all it's glory. So yeah, it was kinda a big deal for me. Am I the only one who thought that Dan's 3.0 speech reminded them of a TED talk? I think we should apply to be a speaker. A monthly goal, perhaps?

I agree completely that that should be a monthly goal. I also agree that it reminded me of the speakers. It is also a goal of mine to attend. I've always wanted to study something with the brain also. The TED Conference just increased my passion and interest.
Let's put it this way, everything you just said, it was like me speaking.

I did not know that TED did musicians... This is now my dream Well, I mean, not just to play, but to speak of music. Music has changed my life, personally, and I know many people that have been heavily impacted by music!

Last year, my teacher told me that I could think of an extra project for myself to do.. High IQ and stuff. Not that important. But the first thing I said, was "I want to speak at a TED conference. Wherever, whenever. I want to tell those people there that children like myself aren't (always) the stupid, hormone-driven human beings they are often thought of." Then I saw this: www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/adora_svitak.htmlAaaand I knew that had already been done. Yet still it is my life goal to do something with my life that is worthy of spreading it to an audience like TED. :3

There are some talks at the TED Conference about music that are extremely inspiring, and one special man who convinced me of my love for classical music. I mean I never minded it, but if you listen to him, you will love it even if you hated it before.
That is also one of my life goals, to do something worthy of speaking at the TED Conference. Whether that have to do with brains or actually doing this whole Bright Beat thing I have started. I want to speak of how we work, and figure it out all at the same time.

Now that's just creepy; It's like you took the word out of my mouth. Do you also happen to be a 14 year old male homosexual in Canada? Or is that TOO far?

A bit too far, girl in the US of A. But this is awesome in general, so I think we should combine our powers. I don't know if you noticed, but I also did say a bit above about that.

I noticed, and maybe someday we'll combine our powers and get Dan to TED. Perhaps a Coalition to Put Dan on TED?
Also, I just remembered that I did make a thread about TED a while back, I think it got deleted...

I say we should, we could, together, work on emails to send to somebody up there that could possibly help us.
May I ask more about what you would like to do with brains. I personally am looking at colleges now to decide where I would like to go, and am thinking about how good the neuroscience departments are.

TED is awesome. There's so many good speakers who have many great ideas. There's talks ranging from comedy to raising kids to be entrepreneurs. If anyone's not already subscribed to the YouTube channel, here's the link: youtube.com/tedtalksdirector

Ted talks is is definitely a favorite of mine. Its probably one of the more important websites on the web. Has anyone heard of PopTech? Its very similar to ted talks but not as good.
