Let's face it. The Pogotribe wants to see something big happen, something that will "change the world." But to get there, we need to start small, and work our way up there.
So, how do we go about getting Dan 3.0 rolling?
First, we need to remind ourselves what this was about in the first place. We are out to do big things, to help change the world. We need to continue thinking small, but at the same time be progressive.
But Alex, what do you mean by, "think small yet progressive?"
Why I'm glad you asked that, bold-font-that-represents-the-readers-questions. Let's take some example tasks that have been accepted:
1) Learn to say, "Hello World!" in ten different languages
2) Change your wardrobe
3) Walk to a nearby city
These are okay starters, because they are small. However, they are not progressive. Here is what you need to have a progressive idea.
1) MAKE IT INTERESTING.
No offense, but I don't care to watch someone walking to a city, unless they have some pretty interesting things to say. It just so happens that Dan is a pretty creative guy, and he managed to find something in his life to talk about while on the walk. In the future, really think up ideas that will help keep the show interesting; believe it or not, this IS a show, and nobody wants to watch Dan do boring things.
2) INCORPORATE THE VIEWERS.
Wall Wednesday got the viewers involved in Dan's life, which helped his popularity. This is vital, because viewers want to feel like they are contributing in experiments like this. Sure, we already feel like we're contributing by suggesting tasks for him to do... but rarely does your idea get picked, which makes you not so interested any longer. However, if a task picked asks for our help, you're suddenly interested again, aren't you?
3) GIVE IT A POSSIBILITY TO GROW
Take the task, "Donate blood" for example. This task was approved, and he has yet to do it. Instead of just going out and donating blood, why not set a date next week for ALL of us to go out and donate blood?
Remember this: one man cannot change the world.
If we want this project to succeed, suggesting tasks such as "Donate blood" is great, however Dan donating blood isn't all that special. But, imagine if ALL of us went out and did the task that was suggested! Imagine hundreds of people around the world suddenly gathering at a local donation spot to donate, all because of a YouTube celebrity project... Okay, so it doesn't seem like THAT big of an idea, but it certainly is bigger and more interesting than just Dan doing it, right?
4) REACH OUT TO THE COMMUNITY.
This is possibly the most important point yet. If we want this "social experiment" to succeed, we need to spread the word about Dan 3.0. Having Dan sit in his house to do doggy tricks is not the way to go. He needs to do things much like the first idea ever submitted: "Go out and give strangers high-fives." It seems silly, yes, and in many ways it is. But the fact is, he had a small impact on the people in his community. Once people there realize what he's doing, it will be spread to other communities, and so on and so forth. Gaining popularity in this idea is how we will get this project to succeed, and to do that we need to get him doing things outside the house.
In Conclusion:
If you have an idea for Dan, please consider these four points. If you don't have all four points, don't post the task, because it will clutter up the Revision task engine.
As a side note: Not all points need to be followed to the T. I am by no means saying that Dan going to see his girlfriend is a bad idea, because it doesn't incorporate his audience... however he could make some stops along the way and do some excellent community advertising. Perhaps he could post signs along the road? THINK BIG!!
Thanks.
