Okay, Alter the word is staying stuck at very small words, so I decided to start a new game where the goal is to lengthen a word one letter at a time. You may include as many intermediate steps as necessary, as long as each step changes only one letter and produces a valid English word. Once you have a word that's one letter longer than what you started with, you're done!
The rules
Please start by copying the last word from the previous post, as to avoid accidentally changing too many letters. Start with this word, then make changes one letter at a time, listing each step in the process. You may:
Tips
Be creative! Adding an s to a noun to make it plural is easy, but adding some steps to get a completely different word is a much nicer challenge.
Please don't invalidate someone's genuine attempt if they made a mistake. Feel free to point it out if you see someone has made a mistake, but if the end result is usable just go from there. It's much more important to just have fun with this game than to nitpick!
Also, please no obscenities. Getting from ship to shirt without taking the obvious route is a much better way to show off your awesomeness.
Finally, the ultimate goal is to create as long a word as possible. But there's no need to overdo it, so if the game gets stuck at a long word we can just start a new round.
Let's get playing!

- replace one letter (then → than)
- move one letter (hint → thin) - any number of places
- remove one letter (eyes → yes) - only as an intermediate step, as the goal is to lengthen the word
- add one letter (fair → fakir) - at any point after removing a letter, and as the last step
