As many of us (or possibly all of us) know, Dan has a blog. I have not been following it closely as I have with his videos, but when quickly gazing over the blog I came across an idea that may make it better (well at least in my opinion).
To me this project seems to not only be about us, but about Dan himself. I think Dan should take advantage of this Blog by explaining to us how our chosen tasks impact him and possibly his feelings about tasks. He does utilize this idea in someways through his videos, but it is quite limited by certain factors such as time and file size.
By telling us his feelings about the tasks and the impacts that they have on his day and/or life, we get a better view of the result and also learn about Dan himself. I think it is important to get a deeper knowledge of Dan himself because it gives us a better perspective of his comfort zone.
Lets say Dan goes skydiving (which if I am correct is one of the things he has talked about being in the decision engine), later he writes about it on his blog. His blog talks about the experience, and he mentions his fear of heights(If your still scared of heights after free falling from the sky I'd be surprised, but anyways this is an example). Now we know a way that we can actually make an impact in Dan's life. The community can work together and create an idea on how to help Dan to overcome his fear.
Off the top of my head I'd say we'd get a group of fans to meet in a certain City with a theme-park (preferably a theme park with tall fast rides) and we help him get over his fear by going on the rides for him and through positive encouragement help him become comfortable with falling. Granted that his fear isn't extremely severe.
In Dans initial introduction at VidCon to Dan 3.0 he talked about how fans controlled a soccer team to help them win, to me right now we don't seem to have a motive, or purpose in Dans life, other than just to be there. To me when this is all over its people will remember this project as "A guy give control of his life to the internet", but what I think would be better would be "A guy gave control of his life to people on the internet, AND they made it better for him".
I'm not saying Dan hasn't done stuff from the decision engine that he enjoyed and may have made his life better, he did get to sing a song with Hank Green. What I'm saying is some of us may be thinking too small, I think for me to call this project a *insert one of Dan's Huge exaggerations here* success, we need to think big, and think about what we can do with the opportunity presented.
The idea behind having a more in-depth blog about his daily activities also stems from the idea that we need to better understand Dan so that we know his limits. Though Dan will try anything we ask him (well almost anything), I feel by knowing more about Dan we can avoid some things that Dan would find very displeasing and would result in a positive outcome. Its pretty much the idea of being able to make an informed decision of what we want.
Just my 2 cents.
P.S. Don't be afraid to comment or post your ideas about his blog.
