I joined my schools speech team, and am thinking about doing a persuasive speech about how New Media is changing the world. Do you think this is a good idea, and if so, what are some good topics to cover? Youtube for sure, and the connections through Facebook, but what else?

Internet communities, easier access to information, internet movements, culture, music, music distribution... I will post more if I can think of anything else =P

It'd be great!
You could use SPOTM (and d3p0) as an example, along with wikipedia.

Digg is a good example as well. Tell them how new media is mostly free from crippling editorial control.

New media allows alternative information to be found more easily. Sometimes this is good, although a lot of the time it's bad. People can spread weird theories and ideas over the internet with new media quite easily. However there is plenty of important information being made easily available by the internet that TV, newspaper and oldschool media rarely, if ever, covered.
New Media can also create awesome communities, like the ones on YouTube. =)
