To manage means: " take charge or care of something"
Now, there is really no need to take charge of this forum, so instead lets take care of it.
I've talked to several people from the tribe about improving the state of this place, and ways of bringing new members.
Some of which include outside advertisement, doing real life projects, and bettering the connection between members.
I'm also sure I haven't talked to every single member about this, and therefore I can't really know what you guys think.
This is the goal of this thread. If you have any ideas, lets discuss them and see how they would work.
I'm going to be posting my ideas too. So if you think of any improvements or ways of implementation go ahead and tell me.
Maybe this can get us talking and working together, and if it doesn't I guess i'll have a thread to keep my ideas in. So its a win-win situation for me anyways ;D

I agree, I think we could use some more core members... Not sure, but I think less and less people are joining SPOTM... not good.
But more importantly we need to keep the community atmosphere positive and motivated. We need to revive the projects section and get people motivated to help out in their communities and around the world.
I think we can do this by showing SPOTM that we can complete our own meaningful projects and enjoy doing it. Like a community bake sale or car wash... something not out of our league to set up that has a positive influence on the community or maybe something larger...
So those are the ideas I've come up with recently. They work in theory for me, but tell me what you think =)

I think we need to define who is here, and who isn't. Who left, and who stayed. That way we can better know who to rely on. By stay I mean joined before d3.0 announced, and was active a bit, and who is still here.

I do agree that we should be taking steps towards caring for the forum. I also agree that motivating people to do projects will help out, in the long run. Let's not be afraid to take baby steps, though. I know all to well that sometimes, ambition can overwhelm, making you overlook the steps that it takes to get to the big goals. I think we need to define who is here, and who isn't. Who left, and who stayed. That way we can better know who to rely on. By stay I mean joined before d3.0 announced, and was active a bit, and who is still here. Hang on there a second, Picnic. I don't think we should count people out solely based on when they joined the forum! That's like excluding someone based on post-count. We should be looking for quality, not quantity... if that makes sense? I'm sure that, eventually, some of the people who are currently coming here just for D3P0 will spread their interest to other parts of the forum. (Optimistically, I would hope that more would gravitate towards the Projects section in time, rather than Anything & Everything. I know that's not very realistic.)

It really irritates me how...how little the people really know about SPOTM, and how it isn't ALL about Dan 3.0. Actually, very little.
Like today, I saw a thread asking where the Decision engine is..
I think we should have some sorta thing to introduce to SPOTM so that people know what it REALLY is.

Let's not be afraid to take baby steps, though. I know all to well that sometimes, ambition can overwhelm, making you overlook the steps that it takes to get to the big goals. You are absolutely right, these impossibly big goals are unreasonable when we're just starting out (that value needs some sub text claiming that " impossibly big goals may result in being overwhelmed and are not for anyone without experience of completing a project"). But what baby steps do you think we need to take? I'm sure that, eventually, some of the people who are currently coming here just for D3P0 will spread their interest to other parts of the forum. (Optimistically, I would hope that more would gravitate towards the Projects section in time, rather than Anything & Everything. I know that's not very realistic.) I think we need to encourage it, not just wait, or hope. It took me like 4 months to move out of the discussion section. Simply showing around new members would (I think) help greatly reduce the time it takes them to get active in the community. And that's what I think we need. I think we should have some sorta thing to introduce to SPOTM so that people know what it REALLY is. That's one of my ideas for the Revamp project -- a Beginner's guide to SPOTM. I posted it on the google wave nd someone just said "That's what the 'Halp Pls' section is for"... It is, definitely. But I think we need to give people all the information they need, not make them go look for it, that's my opinion of us internet users.

I think we should be pushing for us to get somewhere.

qooqǝɯɐƃ: What I really said was "There are guides in the "Halp pls" section" which is a different thing. But, as Kevak said, we need to show that we are not here just because of Dan3.0. Maybe the admins could write about that in the description of the D3P0 section and put a link to the the F.A.Q or something like that ?

I totally agree on the advertising bit...So as far as advertisements are well placed to suit the targeted demographic or 'crowd'. For example, I've already put a SPOTM banner at the bottom of derpy.ca, and revision3 would be a good place too - As opposed to National Geographic's page on Water Buffalo. I don't think our grandmothers are big into playing werewolf forum games and discussing new media!

You sometimes get vouchers for those free... but you end up paying some in the long run :/
