I have Comcast right now and it's complete SHIRT, from the very first moment it was installed it has never worked right. Here's my list of problems I have with it.
1. Channels randomly changing on their own: I have been in the middle of a program, not even touching the remote and the channel will suddenly change for no reason. I can change it back but when it gets like this I spend about 10 min. fighting with the TV and then end up turning it off.
2. Channels not working that are part of our subscription plan: No joke 90% of the time there is only 1 working channel on the TV. We're suppose to be getting more channels with Comcast than we would with basic cable but basic cable rarely if ever had problems with stations not working. Comcast does it constantly.
3. DVR recordings: Other providers will be able to record multiple programs that are on at the same time without being on that station. Comcast can only record one program at a time and it has to be on that station while it's recording. It'll switch to that station automatically when the recording starts and sense you have to agree to stop recording before you can change channels this stop number 1 from happening but in it's place you get the conformation box covering your screen constantly. The TV can still change to live mode and flip channels while you're watching recorded shows but it will pick up from where you left off when you play the program again. This is all just minor annoyances though as it's actually designed to work this way just without the 1 and 2 bugs.
4. Wrong program Recorded: This happens rarely but it's still something that shouldn't be happening at all. The DVR is set to record by title not by time but some times when programs change their time slot it will continue to record in the original time slot even though it's not the actual program it should be recording. I've ended up with a few recordings of Squidbillies that should have been Robot Chicken.
5. Re-recording old programs: Whenever I set up timers I always hit an option that says "New Episodes" You can record once or record all episodes but I just hit new episodes. However it seems like when my DVR hasn't recorded anything for a while because everything is reruns it'll just start recording random things that have already been recorded. The worst case of this happening is one day after not being home for a couple weeks I check the DVR to find every single new recording is all of the same exact episode of Robot Chicken. I literally ended up with about 28 recordings of 1 episode.
6. Unscheduled recordings: This happens at least once a week where my DVR will add programs to my timers that I never even recorded and I never notice them till I find them on the DVR. The last two weeks alone I've found recordings of something, I don't remember the exact title, but it sounded like a chick flick. I had to delete that off my DVR twice.
Having a satellite that goes out every time it rains works better than this thing. It doesn't matter what the weather is like, Comcast never works right. Even though the problems listed above don't always happen they never happen at the same time so no matter what, when you get one problem fixed another problem starts.
I have never used Verizon before so I can't say anything good or bad about it but Comcast is the worst provider I have ever used. And I've gone threw about 6 different providers. One of them we stopped using because the costumer service was bad not because the programing was bad, they sent us a new card for our satellite box, the numbers didn't match up and we had them send us another card which we never got and they were still charging us for service that we weren't getting. To be honest, everything we've tried to switch to has always been so we can more stations that aren't available on basic cable but we always end up switching back to basic cable because the other providers never work right.
Supposedly basic cable isn't even suppose to exist anymore. I remember seeing commercials saying some law was passed that digital HD was so good that everyone had to convert their old TVs or they would stop working which I doubt ever really happened. Sense when is it possible to pass laws regarding people's TVs that put an entire cable provider out of business. I think it was a marketing ploy by the company making the converter boxes to scare people into buying their useless product.

We've had Comcast for some time and we rarely have any of those problems, but then we don't have a DVR. Only power outages have ever effected the programming.
But does anyone know anything about Verizon's internet speeds?

comcast sucks and if you dont agree you either dont pay the bill for it or are one of the lucky few that isn't plagued with the worst customer service ever and the crapiest picture quality you can have. if you where dumb enough to bundle such as what i did then you also get the fun of disconecting from xbox live at random and the inability to stream video. verizon isnt much better sadly and both companies charge you "on accident" for things like replaceing your neighbors cable box, running the main wire along your street, repairing your under waranty cable box, and many other things that have happened that make me want to scream at there smug CEO. Ohh i forgot this applies mostly to people like me who can only afford the cheapest package and pay the rest of my bills. if you have the most expencive level of package they offer you will get sub par customer service and possibly a decent experience... why do i feel buisnesses shouldn't work that way? ohh well enjoy your crap decision that in the end will mean nothing. ohh and comcast bought half of nbc... i dont think that is going to change anything but yeah... here are a few things i found that you can laugh at or at the least help in your decision. comcastconsumerist.com/2010/04/congratulations-comcast-youre-the-worst-company-in-america.htmlconsumerist.com/2010/04/comcast-we-dont-want-to-be-worst-company-in-america-again.htmlconsumerist.com/company/comcast/phillyd.tv/2010/10/10/comcast-worst-company-in-america/verizonconsumerist.com/company/verizon-fios/consumerist.com/2010/04/verizon-rubs-comcasts-face-in-worst-company-win.htmlconsumerist.com/company/verizon/edit:also with comcast many of the channels go off air or they remove them from your current plan without warning. they go out of service at random times ohh and the best part. remember how they where going digital and that the old anttena was being put to rest. well at least the anttena would give me the lower channels at a decent quality. the lower channels are usualy scratchy and disfigured more than when i had an anttena. i cant watch house glee or any of the primetime lineup half the time due to these channels going in and out for no reason. they also had to replace a cord that was old and had finally tore appart. they decided the best way to fix it was run an new line right over my neighbors drive way and mine and not bury it but just let it sit there. my neighbor has cut the cord twice out of anger and once got it mangaled in a lawn mower.. sorry i wasn't going to rant but i got angery when my tv and internet cut out as i was trying to post this half an hour ago...
