Hi! So, I was planning my next holiday, and my thoughts just drifted away - as usual. And then I thought of this. The Pogotribe is global. There are people who share the same values as yourself everywhere. Especially in the USA and Europe. And there sure are some people who might have an extra bed. So, how about a kind of Pogotribe-host-family-project? I will use my own story as an example. This summer, I'm going to the UK with a friend. We have to book youth hostels and all that, which can get pretty expensive if you're going for 12 days. We are going to Oxford, Bath, Exeter, Eastbourne and London. There sure are some Pogotribians who live around there in the UK, and maybe there is someone who goes "Yay! I'm bored in the holidays, and I'd love to have some fun with two random Dutch Pogotribians who I can show around in my town!". Like a kind of exchange project. I know this can be very dangerous, but the modern media - like Skype - make the possibilities for 'evil' people to sneak in very small. Once you've spoken to someone on Skype, you know whether they really are the 16-year old girl they say they are. Now I'm just rambling on. So the questions: 1. Is a host family programme a good idea? YES2. Are there volunteers for this kind of host programme? (I know I usually can host one or two people..) YES3. How can this be organized? Do we make a thread with all the adresses and you just contact them? Is there an agenda? That sort of thing. EDIT:- We have thought of a PogoHost-agenda, in which people have to add whenever they are leaving somewhere and when they are coming back. How do we avoid people not updating the agenda? - How do we know who to trust? How do we rate someone's "decrease-world-suck-level"? - Which rules are necessary? - What punishments do we need? We could use some help with that. ^^ GOALS FOR 29-03-2010- Hosts - People who would want to be hosted (guinea pigs) - Rules & Punishments & Common Sense-'rules'

1. it's one of the best idea I have seen here in a while 2. I cloud probably volunteer, although there bo reason whats so ever to be where I live. 3. it shouldn't have to be more complicated than that, maybe a wikipage instead of a thread. But we should make name logo and stuff like that just because it's fun. I feel like I have heard this before but I can't recall where (not in the pogotibe) ...strange anyway cool idea

I actually think this is brilliant, I know a lot of guys who travel and hotel prices get insane I'm sure there aren't too many pedo's in the pogotribe,
I mean other than Breepop of course, she's obviously a pedophile
But seriously this is a fantastic thing, plus it's a subject that covers so many of the things that the pogotribe represents, AND it brings us closer!
I unfortunately cannot formally volunteer though, I'm in the process of moving out 2 roomates though, so soon I can Not that anyone goes to Oklahoma....

If you need somewhere to stay, I'm sure my Mother won't mind letting you stay here. =] How many of you are there? I think this is an awesome idea! I want to travel around the world, so it would kinda be perfect. And for anyone wanting to come to the UK, I could probably set up a spare bedroom in this house.

ZOMG, Camoon, I'd love you forever for that. <3 I will have to convince my parents, but if this works, I'm sure it'll be a great example for the other ones. It's just me and a female friend- we could share a room, we will be sharing a room the whole vacation. xD
The pedo-problem - LOL - would be solved through letting the parents Skype or mail or whatever with the hosts of their children. I do agree with Dimstow, there aren't that many pedophiles on here. As long as you discuss the exact times of the holidays personally, not on this thread.

What a nice idea! If anyone wants to visit Sweden feel free to stay at my place. It's a tiny box but if you only need a place to sleep it works well

Another address in Sweden, then?
Alright, I've had a talk with my parents. They think it's a great idea, but they want to see some kind of punishment when something goes wrong. What could we do? Throwing the person out of the community doesn't appeal to them as much as it does to most of us - I'd virtually die - so we need something more 'toucheable'.

Alright, so I've had another talk with my parents. The least they would want to know from a person is their basic data, like address and phone numbers- not like PIN-codes or something, that'd be awkward. I think it's only reasonable to have them all in one file, to make sure that the right people get them. This does mean that you have to share your information with every potential guest you have, which is a case of trust.
I have matching forms we use for exchange projects, and I think they involve everything you could possibly want to know.
Secondly, I think it is a good thing if you arrange a Skype call/webcam call/something that involves video and sound with the parents. Parents are sensitive for face to face interaction, not just chatting.

I am from Sweden, not that you wouldn't want to go to Sweden it's just that I live in the middle of nowhere. what I thought about before was when someone tried to explain couchsurfing to me a long time ago. But apparently there are a bunch organizations doing similar things (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospitality_exchange) We should definitely have our own because are awesome but maybe we can learn something from others. hmm, it would be fun to make up a travel plan just based on where there is random pogotribians to meet

I know it's obvious, but let's keep this in the pogotribe. There are things out there that organize these kinds of things, but with strangers. Like... as in... people who you don't know, or have any common interest with.
I heard of couch surfing before. It's a good idea and all, but it's not very safe.

Yep, I think we should keep this inside the pogotribe. Especially for the reason Kralabacka just said- it would be awesome to just make a trip around pogotribians.

I can see this being AWESOME! I can't wait till this gets started, it will give me more incentive to go traveling. If only we had some Japanese pogotribians. Or do we? *Checks the wiki* No we don't.

Maybe you can? - We have thought of a PogoHost-agenda, in which people have to add whenever they are leaving somewhere and when they are coming back. This is the aspect that I'm really lost on It's am amazing idea and we could use it to kind of broadcast PogoHost to the moon, I'm excited about it but.... I don't have a clue how to DO it What I'm thinking of is, the agenda would work kind of like Twitter except only 1 person tweets and everyone who's interested follows them. (which would also give us a running history of what they've done during they're PogoHosting extravaganza, and a 'where were they seen last' if something goes awry) But I don't know if it's efficient or even doable, opinions? Ideas? They would be GREATLY appreciated

Yep, the Twitter idea was quite good, but might not be efficient enough.. as someone has to read all the Tweets. xD
By the way, if anyone is interested in being a host or being hosted, please do PM me.
