looking through these posts as how to DO it, i was reminded of when i saw an investigation on the idea of couch surfing like another member said.
With our abilites here, what do you guys think of a wiki style method. Where the participants can give feedback on the other. and can "vouch" for them. the main page could be on the traveler, and the discussion could be hosts comments on the visit.
that would make it easier to have new hosts feel more comfortable with travelers and possibly have an idea on what to talk about to break the ice
or suggest locations of intrest to the traveler for thier stay and stuff liek that.

Wow, okay, this thread is back from the dead o.o
Your idea is quite good, but you'd still need someone to go first. And that is always the problem. What we maybe could do, is have every host write something about why you should stay at their place. Like a real hotel - make pictures, make a list of the facilities, pictures of the family, a list of things to do around your place.. If someone is willing to put that much effort into something, and is willing to share personal information, and the traveller is able to show that to their parents, there should be less of a problem.
I'm willing to give this idea another go. I can't do it on my own, though, are there people who'd want to help?

I actually love this idea I'd do it, if I had the money to fly lol. I live in a place not many people would want to visit. The best thing about it would be that Charles Dickens lived near me (like 10 mins away - train ride) And it's pretty historic. But it's nothing like London.

Wow, okay, this thread is back from the dead o.o ... I'm willing to give this idea another go. I can't do it on my own, though, are there people who'd want to help? Good ideas shouldn't die just because of a time frame being up. And anyway this thread wasn't locked so... as a new member, after i read it, i felt I had something to add so i did anyway maybe we can interview the couch surfing people (from another community) and see if some of them would like to help us start. Some of the Triad people could start this by "pogo-hosting" thier other triad members and puttign thier experiances here, that would make a few starter pages to promote others to do this as well, just a thought.

I have a vision. I am seeing subcultures of people united on the internet actually be united and standing up for a common goal in RL. Battling the rough harshities of the 'IRL' or so the haters call "The Real World". We will stand tall, we will get through it, and we have already gathered to create a unified spirit so we don't even have a choice now ... The rollercoaster has been set in effect, no stopping it now. The interesting thing about this rollercoaster tho... is that it is like a rollercoaster coming from the sky with god on it. lol
