mathsvlog said that there should be admins on the decision engine - and I agree. To quote myself in my comment on his last (Nov 22/23) video: So I made the taskThoughts? I know the possibility of admins came up earlier - but that was then, this is now.

Voted up.
Dan himself had this idea before Dan 3.0 even started, and it really should have been adopted months ago.
Better late than never, I guess?

Definitely, *votes*. After all a system is not democratic when it's totally fragmented and no one gets enough attention.

I mentioned this in a previous post, but I think it would be a great idea to award reputation points to D3P0 contributors. Members with high reputation could then earn privileges within the D3P0 project, such as moderation and cleanup abilities. revision3.com/dan30/task/reputation-points-for-contributors

Someone else might have entered the exact same thing, but no one saw it....

^That and also: There could be some ideas that get many votes up, just because of being a little funny or soething like that, even if said ideas are very trivial/not necessary/not really helpful/quite unimportant. So I think something like that could work better if we had like mods beforehand so they choose these privileged people.

Yeah, I purposefully left the definition of how points are awarded vague. That's something for the technical folks and admins to figure out. The system would have to favor consistent good participation over one-hit wonders, and I think consistent is the key word. The point is that if there is a way to reliably grant reputation based on such a system I think it would be beneficial to have. This forum employs the concept to a limited degree with the star ratings and other awards. Though Q&A sites like StackOverflow.com and Askville.com take it a step further and actually start to phase in moderation abilities as higher levels are earned. This way, they become community-driven. Over time, certain members will stand out, and I think that will help engage the D3P0 community. Right now there's not much incentive.

^Yes, but in some cases, even being in the top...oh say 5 posted members on a forum, you still dont get as much respect as some others.

Ugh... he limited it to people who can do video responses.
That's lame. He could end up missing out on some very good people simply because they don't want to, don't know how to, or don't have the time to make a video. Not only does it narrow the possibilities massively (therefore increasing the chances of being forced into picking people whom you may not be confident in), but it makes me worry that people will be picked because they're funny, creative, entertaining, hyper, attractive, or just generally good at making videos. None of those qualities would really make someone good at cleaning up a very, very messy Decision Engine.
I hope they're not just given a menial job that anyone or their goldfish could do. I don't see that fixing the Decision Engine.
