How come americans celebrate this when we ignore it almost completely? Actually, my school didn't even give us the day off. :S Anyway, Happy Hanko de Mayo. That's way more relevant

I know, right? Cinco de Mayo is just a celebration of the battle of Puebla in 1862 where the Mexican army defeated the French forces.
^ That almost sounds made up...
Anyways, for some reason everybody outside of Mexico thinks cinco de mayo has to do with Mexico's independence or its revolution, which it doesn't...
but to be honest I think you are right, Hank's birthday is much more relevant and important thing to be celebrating ^‿^

Not that working in walmart or lettuce fields is bad; the sad part is that people go over there to do it. Just a clarification.

Update:
So apparently cinco de mayo is celebrated in the U.S. and not in Mexico because Americans decided it should be a holiday in gratitude to Mexico for stopping the French forces before they entered the U.S.
Specially due to the fact that there was a Civil war going on in America, and would not have been able to stop the French.
So, all in all, Mexico helps the U.S. by defeating an invading force. The U.S. decides to make it a day for drinking and partying while making Mexicans work for less than minimum wage in jobs that Americans don't want to do.
Douche bags... xP

My Spanish teacher showed us a video of Cinco de Mayo a few years ago in Mexico City and Puebla. It was insane.
