For the basics, I want to just cover the building blocks. Phrasing will come later with actual song structure. Unless you have another opinion, which I'm totally open to. Nah, I agree with you there, I just wanted to give it a shot, as I couldn't think of anything else.

1. Yeah, that's VERY important. 2. Probably a while... again, if anyone wants to write anything for this, feel free. Although I don't think anyone does.

You know what I don't think I'll ever understand? Modes. Modes are weird.

Modes make sense, but I can't remember the names. They sound odd sometimes, though.

Count me in on this. I love love love my music, and I love love love my understanding things.
Out of curiosity, how will you be teaching this "class" exactly?

Essentially, modes are the same key signature, but starting and ending on a different note.

Ah, okay. Then that still makes sense with what I learned they were, that's good.

Well, you've got another person who's interested! I've been playing the piano for about 6 years now, and I've already started some studies on musical theory of my own, but doing it with a group could be interesting.

...with a group could be interesting. NEW IDEA- MUSIC THEORY PROJECTS?!? Once I (we?) teach the basics, people could go off and write about 16 bars of music. In pairs. People could listen to other people's projects. People would learn from other people. That would be awesome. Thank you Piccard for inspiring this idea and for signing up. Now, for anyone who's interested, can you just post what you know about theory? I want to see how many people need to know how to read music and stuff. And if you can't read music, don't be discouraged, that's why we're here.
