Saying it is stupid, or that homosexual people are offended by it. IS implying that it shouldn't happen. It is just a figure of speech which is used to re-phrase a sentence. I don't understand any of the first part of this, could you re-phrase it? Jesus... you think the only reason we shouldn't say the N word is because black people "don't like it when we call them that"? I don't think people are afraid of being gay because they don't want to be in a minority. I think they are afraid of being gay because gay people are hated, often physically assaulted, called names, abused, kicked out of their homes by their parents, disowned by their families etc. etc. etc. Maybe this doesn't happen where you're from but it does where i am from and I think the words we use are not only affected by our attitudes but affect our attitudes so we should choose them very carefully. Saying "no homo" is saying "i want you to know that I am not homosexual" implying homosexuality is something to be ashamed of. Also it sounds ridiculous. I've never heard this used so I don't know how it is used. I assume it is used after anything that people who don't understand homosexuality think is gay. Seeing as how the only thing that is gay is liking someone of the same sex as you I imagine all this does is reinforce stupid stereotypes. We are living in 2010, not 1892. and unless you live in the middle east, I doubt you will get assaulted or kicked out of your house for being gay. Same with blacks. Blacks, gays need to be stop being fussy over these things if they want to take themselves seriously in real life. Or else they can keep being fussy over small jokes and live within their bubble of insecurity.

No sorry, attacks on gay people happen all the time in Ireland. Kids are kicked out of their houses by their parents all the time in America for being gay. Find their youtube blogs, you will see them black and blue and crying in friends houses. I envy you that you live in such a safe little bubble you didn't even know about this. Try this: www.godhatesfags.com/Last time I was there was a good 5 years ago, they had a crude little Jpeg of a boy being burned alive. It was a picture they got from a newspaper of a young boy whose name I have forgotten who had been murdered by other children at his school because he was gay. Underneath the picture they wrote his name and that he was burning in hell. They said they didn't condone violence but that he was in his rightful place now. www.google.com/search?hl=cs&client=firefox-a&hs=uo2&rls=org.mozilla%3Acs%3Aofficial&q=news+gay+attacked&lr=&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Do you really think children killed and burnt another child? This website has a lot of information which is being manipulated in such a way to emphasize their point, what makes you think that this story about the boy is true? As the site states the organization 'burned' their organization in 2008. So they are no longer active, making your link irrelevant in the first place. This fairytale of gays being discriminated world wide is false, there ARE a few cases where they are discriminated but most of the time there would be deeper issues than that and it would be just the media who makes it a gay-related attack. Apart from all this, I would like to remind you that the No Homo phrase isn't an attack, just a joke - and even if it is not used in a joking sense, it is only to express one's self.

No homo isn't an attack, it's establishing that the person speaking is not a homosexual. It's like me saying I'm not Asian. It has nothing to do with the Asian race, just with the fact that I'm not part of it. I've never heard it used in a degrading or insulting way, always in good humor.

I've never heard a point where it was funny. It just makes the situation more awkward. If they really need to make it known that they're not gay, then they must be pretty insecure about their own sexuality.

If somebody says "I like to make sandwiches, no female." Would that offend you?

Apart from all this, I would like to remind you that the No Homo phrase isn't an attack, just a joke - and even if it is not used in a joking sense, it is only to express one's self. Jesus christ! Four of people i know were attacked because of this! Three of them were put in hospital and one of them was even stabbed! And you tell me it's all in their head! That boy I was talking about was killed by other children (teenagers) it was on CNN that's where GHF heard about it, i will try and find it, i am sure I'll find loads as this happens often. www.nytimes.com/2008/02/23/us/23oxnard.html < 15 year old in california murdered after coming out tech.mit.edu/V119/N10/gaither_10.10w.html < two men that planned and executed the murder of a guy who had hit on them news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/8630290.stm < 60 year old gay man murdered by 3 17 year olds (two girls and a boy) www.edgeboston.com/index.php?ch=news&sc=&sc2=news&sc3=&id=99085 < boy killed after leaving gay club. Seems to have been a hate crime as there is no mention of sexual attack. I'm just halfway down the first page of google results, I Don't want to keep reading because it's getting very upsetting. The fact is violence against gay people or people men who act feminine is widespread. I have seen it and I know it is real. I showed you the GHF site so that you would see the people who made it, not what they were talking bout, i was actually hoping you would disagree with them but you read their slanderous articles and believed them, i was just showing them as an example of sick and twisted human beings. I wanted you to know they existed because you keep denying it.

I've never heard of this "no Homo" thing before... why the hell is it used? What do you guys think of people who after saying something that could be taken as being gay. People say "no homo" immediately after to ensure the people around them know that they are not indeed homo. You're welcome.

I don't see why it needs to be used though... it seems a bit silly and unnecessary to me...

It's not necessarily immature. There are certain situations where it makes for a good laugh. However, just like "that's what she said" jokes, it can get old really fast if used excessively.

All right so the majority vote is 10 for "it's a joke" and 8 for offensive. But even if it was 17 thinking it was a joke and 1 thinking it was offensive, wouldn't the feelings of that one person be enough reason to never say it again?
