What do you guys think of people who after saying something that could be taken as being gay. People say "no homo" immediately after to ensure the people around them know that they are not indeed homo.

I think it's pretty annoying when people use it.

I don't think it's annoying necessarily, it just kind of weeds out those who are and those who aren't comfortable with their sexuality. It'd be like saying "God you know, sometimes I just wanna blow SHIRT up... but...I'm not a terrorist."

I wanna blow shirt up. With a pipe bomb... preferably my teachers desk that'd be awesome.
Also, no homo offends me. It means they'd be worried that people think they are homo, which means that they themselves have a problem with it.
*closes his thinking box*
I have too much fun with this thing you guys should really get one!

I hate it. If someone is that uncomfortable with their sexuality, they're probably in the closet. I've heard guys say it after they tell their friends they love them. Like, REALLY? You can't just say you love your friend? It's ridiculous. You obviously have something to hide if telling a friend you love them makes you uncomfortable enough that you need to clarify...

I have friends who tag it at the end of the gayest statements. And by gay, I don't mean stupid. I mean GAY!
Although it's pretty good if timed just right, but not overused...Kind of like "That's what she said".
At the end of the day, I'm sure there are worse things in life than getting our panties in a bunch over figures of speech like this, when within reason. Political correctness is fine, but when it's taken to an absolute, it's just freaking stupid...Like how now I can't say "Merry Christmas" most places I go. (I have to say "Happy Holidays") No homo.

I tell my friends I love them. They give me weird looks so I add "In a friendly way." To which they smile and say "Oh, ok"

I'm glad I've never heard anyone say this in real life. Aside from implying that being homo is bad, it also suggests that men have to be super-masculine stereotypes.

If gay guys start saying straight things to girls which they dont mean in that way - they are free to say no hetero (?) aren't they?

Did anyone say someone wasn't free to say something? You're free to say whatever ridiculous slur you want it doesn't mean it's not idiotic. "no hetero" would be equally stupid. I dunno what people are thinking.

LAH.
If you have to say "No homo" to your friends to reassure them that you're not gay, maybe you should take a step back and figure out who your friends really are. Are they really that homophobic?

I dunno what people are thinking. Saying it is stupid, or that homosexual people are offended by it. IS implying that it shouldn't happen. It is just a figure of speech which is used to re-phrase a sentence. People are usually insecure about being gay because they would be in a minority. Why should gays be offended when someone says "no homo" or a black offended when someone says the N word? Just because these people are a minority it doesn't mean that you should remove phrases which they don't like from your vocabulary. Minorities are composed of individuals, the same way majorities are. So it's not really about gays being offended, its about them being fussy insecure individuals.

Just because someone says "no homo" doesn't meant they're a closet gay. Most of the time I've heard it used, it's simply a joke.

"No hetero"... I should try that one just to throw people off. Either that or "yes homo"

"No hetero"... I should try that one just to throw people off. Either that or "yes homo" I've thrown in "Extra Homo" a couple of times. Good for some chuckles.

I dunno what people are thinking. Saying it is stupid, or that homosexual people are offended by it. IS implying that it shouldn't happen. It is just a figure of speech which is used to re-phrase a sentence. I don't understand any of the first part of this, could you re-phrase it? Jesus... you think the only reason we shouldn't say the N word is because black people "don't like it when we call them that"? I don't think people are afraid of being gay because they don't want to be in a minority. I think they are afraid of being gay because gay people are hated, often physically assaulted, called names, abused, kicked out of their homes by their parents, disowned by their families etc. etc. etc. Maybe this doesn't happen where you're from but it does where i am from and I think the words we use are not only affected by our attitudes but affect our attitudes so we should choose them very carefully. Saying "no homo" is saying "i want you to know that I am not homosexual" implying homosexuality is something to be ashamed of. Also it sounds ridiculous. I've never heard this used so I don't know how it is used. I assume it is used after anything that people who don't understand homosexuality think is gay. Seeing as how the only thing that is gay is liking someone of the same sex as you I imagine all this does is reinforce stupid stereotypes.
