So, most of the must have already heard of the new Arizona immigration law. Personally, I'm storongly opposed, but as my creazy ideologies go (I'm somewhere up there, between Stalin and Hitler.) I believe that every human being should have a right to live and work where they want. So tell me, what do you think about this new law, and what do you think about immigration laws in general.

In all honesty, I have no problem with the law. They came here illegally. Become a citizen or gtfo.

the problem with the law is that it promotes racial profilling. if the police see a mexican on the streets, they can detain them in jail for one night on the spot if they don't have their papers. If you're a legal Mexican, you'd have to carry your citizenship on you at all times. I can't imagine having to carry my citizenship certificate with me at all times. Yes, the illegals need to go, i agree with that. but we need a better way to find them than this. I can remember another time that the government made a certain minority carry around proof of citizenship with them at all times. it didn't end well for the Jews...

Well, once you find a better way to solve the problem, we can use it. Until then, we'll use this. You also said you can't imagine having to carry your citizenship around. Well, drivers always need their license and registration. Is it that hard to keep your citizenship too?

I find it ironic that the teabaggers (the members of the political movement, not the performers of the sexual act) consider Health Care and Financial Reform to be Fascism yet have absolutely no problem with this law. If any law in the US is a gateway to fascism, it is this. It gives the police too much power and encourages racial profiling. Now every Hispanic in Arizona has to carry around his/her papers or they get their ass landed in jail.
In short, this law causes world suck.

I agree with the racial profiling part of the law. I can see myself being stopped because i look too spanish. And Zang, drivers need to carry ID because driving is a privilege, not a right. And the privilege can be revoked.
They are saying if you're mexican I can stop you whenever i want, under reasonable suspicion. This is completely retarded. Since Arizona is close to Mexico many people will be Mexican in that state. We as Americans have a right to be asked to show papers if we didn't break a law.
And if they ask me, and I say no, not because I am trying to give them a tough time, but because i have somewhere to go, then they can jail me... This seems wrong. I did nothing wrong. Here is a better solution. Get better border control, and they should also closely monitor people who are here legally, until their visas expire. Many illegals are just people who overstayed their visas

If you weren't born here, living here is a privilege, not a right, and the privilege can be revoked.
And it just so happens that Arizona has a lot of illegal immigrants.
What?
You could have done something wrong. You could be here illegally. They're checking to see if you're breaking the law
No SHIRT
What?

I don't see too much wrong with this law... Sure, legal citizens shouldn't have to carry around papers, but it's not too much of an inconvenience is it? Just shove them in your wallet and you're good to go. It's certainly unarguable that racial profiling is wrong, but at the same time, it's sometimes necessary... If the majority of offenders of a law are of one race, it'd be pointless to stop every other white guy asking to see his proof of citizenship. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I agree with the tactics... nor am I saying it's okay to assume somebody is here illegally because they're mexican, but honestly, I can't think of any other effective way to deal with the illegal immigration problem

I think the law is fairly absurd, but I suppose it is also necessary too. I mean the whole racial profiling thing is definitely a step in the wrong direction, and it ultimately means that people of mexican descent can/will be treated like second-class citizens regardless of where they are originally from. It may be a slight inconvenience to legitimate citizens but even then I can't imagine that that's a situation you wanna go through. Having a policeman come up to you asking to see some proof of citizenship isn't the most welcoming or pleasant situation to be in. But I don't live in Arizona so I don't know how big of a problem illegal immigration really is, so while I don't like the bill and I think it's ridiculous on a few levels, I can't really judge it since I have no real experience with the immigration situation in AZ.

It's not about illegal immigrants. It's about asking every single person with a tan to carry papers around with them at all times and the historical precedent is disgusting as it's one of the things the Nazis did to Jewish people before the holocaust. It is completely against the human rights of legal American citizens. Here is an interview with a Sheriff refusing to enforce it: www.democracynow.org/2010/5/6/pima_country_sheriff_refuses_to_enforceEven if you're the type of person who wants every illegal immigrant rounded up and shot you have to realize that this law is ridiculous.

What's wrong with that? Would it be better if EVERYONE had to carry papers? Yes! Everyone or no one. I thought you said "carrying papers isn't a big deal, you just slip them into your pocket before you go out. " or something like that. Never mind that if you forget you have to spend a few hours or possibly the night in the police station until you can prove you have just as much a right to be there as the police officers who arrested you. Did you listen to the sheriff talking? Apart from the violation of civil rights, Do you see how this is expensive and impractical and won't actually help anything?

Yes, irrelevant statement is irrelevant It's relevant because why shouldn't you have to carry the paper if your tanned friend does? If you listened to the sheriff talk you would hear him say that this will not help to catch any more illegal immigrants than the existing legislation. If you are determined to be ignorant in order to preserve the feeling that you are right then what is the point in discussing this? You won't even listen to information from a qualified professional who knows this law inside out.
