I was thinking about this earlier today. I work at McDonalds and while I was working, I noticed a younger high school kid wearing a Def Leppard shirt. I began trying to think of a band in our generation that might be printed as a "vintage" tshirt and worn by high school kids thirty years from now. Nothing came to mind.
I like that idea. What will be on "vintage" shirts in the future? I quickly scrolled through my iTunes. Nothing jumped out... that is sad. Just an idea, but I was thinking that maybe that has less to do with a lack of musical talent and more to do with the availability of music. What I mean is, back in the day before the internet, music was less available, and so generally people listened to whatever they could find easily, which was whatever played on the radio. Now because of the internet there's a greater variety of music that is easily accessible. I think that since there's a lot more variety it makes it harder to find one band that nearly everyone enjoys and that defines its generation. That makes a lot of sense. There is no music of my generation. No song that will represent all of our collective youths.

in my opinion, people like the black eyed peas, lady gaga, lil wayne, t pain, justin bieber and kanye west are just sad excuses for "musicians"
they are just about the beat and how they can alter their talking voice to by autotuning it. it just doesnt make sense.
I like groups that are pop-punk and punk rock. This includes green day blink 182 and sum 41. but i also really enjoy avenged sevenfold (R.I.P. Rev) and slipknot

Mr. Retro Fire, I completely agree with you except for Lady Gaga. I used to despise her, but then I realized that I never really heard any of her stuff. If you look up some Lady Gaga stuff where it's just her and the piano, magic happens. Her radio stuff sucks, though. The public can't handle her live awesomeness.
She is a great piano player.

But I also think the music that they play on the radio is still rather sad. If you've noticed, the stuff they play on the radio happens to be most popular, not just on the radio, but on the internet as well. Go look up a song on youtube that you like and might not be that well known and look at the view counts. Now go look up a well known song. See what I mean? I also believe that part of the problem could also be marketing and how music like Lady Gaga or Miley Cirus gets so much publicity.

This is a bad poll simply because there is still good music out there, and some of it does play on the radio >:\ otherwise, I'd agree that most of the stuff now is complete crap. Bands like Feist and Justice are still good and very much mainstream, and there are a lot of obscure artists that are very good.

I also think that major record labels are partially responsible that there isn't a lot of great music in our mainstream. They could publicize new and innovative music if they wanted, but they'd rather put something out that sounds similar to what's already popular because they know that it'll sell more albums and make them more money.

^ I definitely agree with that. At the same time, if her radio stuff was as unique as her live stuff, she wouldn't get as much money/publicity/fans/more money/more of the last 4 things.
The public needs to be educated about good music.

I think that there is very good music and very horrible music. I also think that no matter who you ask, they will say something different about music, so there isn't really much point in determining "good music" from "bad music" as a group. I personally think that "good music" is music that has meaning, and wasn't just written so some person could profit from it. Therefore, in my opinion, there can be good music from any genre, or bad music from any genre. I will say that a lot of mainstream music today was just written for money by talentless people and doesn't even sound good, but some people like it, so that's okay. Music is really just about making people feel. If it's popular, then that means someone must like it, it must make someone out there feel good, so why complain about that? If you dislike it, don't listen to it.

^ That made me think. But at the same time, some people are just listening to it because it's popular.

And for shirts, I wouldn't be surprised if artists like Jay-Z, Boys Noize, Crookers, Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, stuff like that will be "vintage" later. Don't underestimate the music of today

There's still good music. It just doesn't get much radio time.

I'm impressed but I don't understand why she would misplace so much talent in such crappy pop lyrics. I'd rather just listen to the instrumental I guess haha.

If you dislike it, don't listen to it. I wouldn't listen to it, but every time I leave my house I get slapped around the face with it. Can't even have a drink without crappy music hammering my ears.
