Seeing this post inspired me
The original question is a very good question - what makes something a sin. The response however - is zombiesque in the sense that it's regurgitating something someone was taught without any thought as to why it is the way it is.
So without spouting of examples of sins, what makes something a sin? You can use religious reasons, moral reasons, empirical reasons, or just reasons you can think of - but try only to use examples to demonstrate your definition, not as your definition.

The is no sin, but there is a collective will of a community. Go against it and you will pay.

Wait wait wait, what? I meant sin religiously. Also that was phrased horribly and I'll admit I phrased it horribly. But, if I can't use religion, there's no point

I should also state that when I said "it just is" I meant "it is because God said so". There's no reason for it

Ahh.
Zang, I feel like God (if they do exist) saying so doesn't make it right.

Why? Why can't we as humans disagree? Is that a sin?
Disagreeing is the entire point of society. And unforunately, many religions. So, I'm sorry, but you're contradicting yourself.

But... There is no disagreeing. It's what is right, not what he thinks is right

Well, what is right established by most likely your religion, not him. For instance, can you give me the exact place in the Bible where God says that being gay is a sin?

Also, it's theoretically impossible that something IS right, it's almost always what YOU THINK is right.
Sorry for caps, I've been reading lots of John Hodgman.. Look him up.

Agh. Never mind. I see where in the Bible it says that.
I'll paraphrase:
Here's my problem with that. One very simple question: Why?
