Someone help me. Please?
Is Dan joking, or is he not? Is this religion with the flying spaghetti monster a joke/satire, or is it not? I thought Dan was being completely serious, I really do believe him, though a lot of other people don't seem to think so... And I AM being COMPLETELY serious here, so don't give me any crap about the FSM being real unless you truly do believe that 100%.
This whole ordeal is making me very upset, honestly. If it turns out Dan was doing this as an experiment or something like that (though I have to say, I highly doubt that), I will be very, very, very disappointed in him and very, very upset. Even more so than I am now.
I believe Dan is telling the truth. However, I'm not so sure that what he saw was what he thought it was. I mean, come on, it was 2 in the morning and he had been watching videos about the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Isn't it possible that he could have fallen asleep without realizing it, and dreamed that whole ordeal without realizing it was nothing but a dream? After all, he did say the experience was not any of the 5 senses, but sort of a figurative feeling of sorts.
Still, people usually (though not always!) can tell if something was a dream or not. And he seemed pretty darn serious about all this...
Even so, this is not the first time a person has strongly believed that a god of sorts came to them personally and asked them to be their messenger/disciple. And get this - THIS SAME THING HAPPENS WITH JESUS! People (yes, recent people, not ancients) have sworn on their life that they have seen God and had one-on-one conversations with him. One guy even wrote a book about his experience.
People have had things like this happen before. They have claimed to have been visited by some god who asked them to be their disciple. And they have sworn by that religion ever since that incident of theirs.
So here's the thing - a lot of the same athiests who shot me down and rebuked me in my "Why I Still Believe in Jesus" thread a while ago, agreed with Dan almost right away! Why is his "god" any different? Many Christians (as I stated earlier) have also been totally convinced that they had one-on-one conversations with God. And I have seen signs, myself. Yet I get shot down by all the athiests, and then they go off with Dan right away when he suddenly goes from being Palin-hating, science-loving, and God-skeptical to being Palin-worshipping, faithful, and incredibly religious.
Also.. isn't Sarah Palin a Christian? I could be wrong here, but I looked it up, and I believe that's what I found... Plus, she has a husband and kids. Why would someone holy and divine do that? (And don't tell me about the Greek gods or anything, because I'm pretty sure we can all agree that they are not real.)
UNLESS SARAH PALIN OPENLY CLAIMS THAT SHE IS OUR SAVIOR, I AM NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS IN THE SLIGHTEST!!! SHE DID NOT DIE ON THE CROSS FOR OUR SINS!!!!!!
*takes a deep breath* I'm sorry, I really am. But I told you that I was rather upset, and it's very difficult to hold it in while writing this.
Yes, I have called my belief in Jesus and God into question before, but never this seriously. I still do believe in God and Jesus, but this FSM thing is really worrying me. I just want to know the truth. There is no chance I would have believed any of this FSM stuff, had it not been for Dan. Because I honestly do believe he's telling the truth.
So, that being said, please, please, do not post a reply here going on about why one of my MINOR POINTS is wrong. Please only respond if you have a thought-out, detailed explanation that could help shed some light on the way things really are.
EDIT: By the way, I just want to make it clear that no matter what Dan ends up doing, I will still certainly remain a loyal subscriber. I wish him the best in everything he does, no matter how much his beliefs differ from mine.
