Because of the miracle of Polls, I believe that we can have a true democracy. All we need is to discuss ideas for changes, and make a poll of the most popular ideas. then everyone votes, and DEMOCRACY ACHIEVED!

Elected admins??? Rule changes? Petitions that can be voted on?
Sounds achieveable.

As someone who never got to spend time on SPOTM. I just wanna state that a true democracy is EXACTLY what I would want for this kind of forum, especially considering the topics we discuss here, I just ask that the polls that decide admins, major changes, new powers, and similar things be easily accessed and very public on the site, people will want to have their fair vote and it's hard to vote if you don't know there's anything to vote on.

The Internet is one of the few instances where consensus can be reached easily, so long as everyone agrees to abide by the 50% plus 1 rule.

agreed, as long as we let the major rule in all situations where there IS a majority then we can get the real benefits of democracy

I think we are already a democracy, and I definitely like the ideas of using the polls to enhance this. In a way, we are already voting via threads and posting. Even as the forum and PogoTribe evolves, all changes and improvements are made with the desires of the members in mind.
We are all about equality and voice, and so of course democracy would be the ideal form of government for our tribe. Anybody who wants to use the polls to exercise this should feel free to go for it.

Democracy is a good idea, but what kind of democracy are we talking about here? Are we going to have an American style Republic or some other kind? Personaly I thinks if we have some sort of leader with just a little bit more influence than others. Dan himself is one example. Hes sort of a leader, although he doesnt really have any power.
Thats kinda like the system we have here in Sweden. If you check Sweden of Wikipedia it says monarcĂ˝, but irs really a democracy with a king. Although the king has no power. What do you think?

@hari Seldon I think that's really what we were trying to propose, I democracy with a leader who has actual power (Has to be Dan, who else?)
But rather then having Senate or House we would use the Admins, who would ALSO be elected, which would give them more power within the community (I.E. they could overturn Dan's decisions) and would make them a much more trusted and awesome part of the community
But i think the biggest part of it is the polls, if we get to VOTE on all of the SPOTM decisions it'll give everyone some say.

Dimstow, you're on the right track with the latter part of your post, but I feel the need to establish Dan's (and the admin's) role a bit.
Dan is a leader, yes. However, he is not more important than any of the other members. Think of PogoTribe as a train. He is driving it, yes, but you guys are the coal in the engine. You guys are the carriages, the passengers, and the refreshments. Without all of you, there would be no train. Without Dan, the train would still be at the station. Everybody is working together to get this train on the tracks, and we'll continue in this way until we get to our destination and beyond.
Cheesy metaphors ftw.

Gotta love the metaphor Cortney
I think I'm a little confused, are you prposing that Dan would have no more power that I would? (Ignoring the fact that my beard gives me power to control minds,of course)
I think what I should have more clearly stated is that I think Dan and the admins together would decide which changes, additions, elections etc. THEY approve of and those would be put to a public vote.
But I don't know that that (^that up there, yeah right there^)would be the best. Perhaps a universal poll, chosen by Dan or a pool of admins, where Admins get a weighted vote?

TECHNICALLY speaking, we have more power, simply because we are admins and can change things on the forum.
However, we are no more important and have no more voice. You guys can look us in the e-Eye and say "Dude, that sucks. Here's why." and we're not going to do anything to you except listen. You guys don't need approval for projects or anything from us. We don't want you to view us as any better than you: we are all equals. Admins just have some stars and a colorful username.

I didn't realize admin's got knowledge of the secret project! Jealousy consumes me! As for the issue at hand, I realize that currently the admins don't really have a lot of power (watch, I'm gonna say that then one of the admins going to permanently change my display name to KickMeinTheHead or something scary like that) But I really thing they SHOULD have the power, a way of making tribe-based-decisions that effect all of us for the better, and giving an elected group of people actual power over this forum would mean that, hypothetically of course, if Dan just got bored with the project or something we'd have a way to and a force of decision-making in the tribe to continue and figurehead any major projects even without Dan
