I think a like button would be nice, but I would not like it to determine rank. I think maybe rank should be based on total time active on the moon.

Bree, why don't you like ranking systems? I've seen other forums with them and they were implemented quite well. Have you consulted the other admins about it, too? Because I've seen them plenty of times, and not once have I seen them positively affect a forum (quite the opposite, sometimes). Here are the issues I see with rep: 1) More work for me 2) Very hard to implement 3) Possibly of upset (I've seen it cause flame wars before; while I don't see that happening here, people could still get upset... somehow. You guys would find a way. I know it.) 4) It's elitist 5) People will just rep up their friends 6) Trading rep (Rep for rep or rep for something else... like nudes ) 7) Jealousy 8) People creating multiple accounts just to rep 9) More work for me 10) People begging for rep (or just asking nicely; it's annoying either way) 11) Inflated egos (Hate this one a lot.) 12) People posting pathetic "my rep is low!" posts just so people will rep them 13) If it were possible, we would have gotten rid of post count a long time ago. Post count doesn't matter, and reputation is only a very bad extension of it. 14) Reputation will generally only reflect a users post count, not the quality of their posts (not in all cases, but most) 15) Half of the forum will not like it. 16) Complains from #15ers 17) More work for me I mean, the list just goes on and on and on. I hate reputation so much, guys. It really is the worst thing you can do to a forum. Also, this has been discussed before. I don't remember if the admins ever officially discussed it, but either way, if it was dropped, we probably didn't like it. Also also, I don't need to consult anyone before posting my opinion, thank you.

I don't need to consult anyone before posting my opinion, thank you. I never said you did...? I was just curious. Sorry, that post came out kinda weird. And yeah, now I see why. I haven't seen the rep system in a while, and not that I remember, it wasn't that great. I'm not saying it was bad, but it didn't help all too much.

The rep system usually fails. I still think we wouldn't have common forum problems here.

With that reasoning, we shouldn't be able to see a users post count.
+ I don't see why the admins have chosen to use proboards if everything is so hard to implement. There are other platforms which have much more functionality, easy to implement and are probably even more efficient.

I think we should have both a post count and a "Like" button. Also, make them both equally public. It will allow us to judge the ratio of how many posts the person has vs. the amount of likes they get. Someone can be a retard spammer with 1000+ posts and only have 10 likes, while someone could have 200 posts and have 120 likes. Like I said, it motivates members to type well thought out posts, and it helps newbies recognize the valued members.

"The admins" didn't choose ProBoards, actually.
Personally (I can't speak for everyone), I was given the impression we could have absolutely anything we wanted changed upon moving here. This hasn't really been the case, though.
Either way, the cons of reputation outweigh the pros by over 9000 lbs.

If there shouldn't be a rep system, post count shouldn't be visible. Post count also serves as a kind of 'reputation', this promotes spamming.
A well implemented rep system where there are limits would be nice.

I don't think we should have the button. We should make a comment because we want to, not because we want 'likes' showing that people approve of our post or find humour in it.
And the post count should stay visible. If you can't look past the number and give credit to members who consistently offer interesting or worthwhile posts, sucks for you.

One thing I'll never understand is why we have ranks based on post count. Wouldn't it make sense for everyone to be a eweniverse (because it's the top rank)? Why do we have to post a lot to get a new rank? Doesn't this do the exact opposite of what you're trying to do?
