I agree with Bree. This might cause more problems than it will solve.
Still, I do agree there should be some kind of element, maybe not this one but something different, of recognition for those who work a lot for the community. Dan once asked us to help comment on the people who responded to his videos for this same reason. People like to know that their hard work is being appreciated ;D

So you agree with the idea, but at the same time, you want to agree with Bree.

No. I agree with the sentiment and goal of this project, but I don't agree with the method.
Just like you would agree that people shouldn't be racist, you wouldn't agree with the action of killing everyone who is.
The idea of the argument is valid and I can accept it, but the implementation of such is questionable and creates more problems than it would solve.
Hope that answers your question click

If you agree with the idea, the only valid points Bree made are... more work for her.

Here are the ones I agreed with:
- People will just rep up their friends - Trading rep - People creating multiple accounts just to rep *specially this one* - People begging for rep - Very hard to implement (point that something else should be implemented)
Therefore, yes I think we should find a way to give due to those who help the tribe, but no I don't think this is the way to do it.

regardless, we are a creative bunch. I'm sure we could find a way of making a project that would give this outcome, and wouldn't have room for the possibility of those actions.

Click3ty, it would happen. I'm not sure how you can say it wouldn't when you do not and will not ever know every person who ever plans to join this forum. We are different than other forums, but we can't ignore the fact that we are still a forum. And reputation is just a horrible thing to do to a forum.
If people want acknowledgement for their work (honestly, I'm not sure typing up 200 words is work), why can't we all make a habit of acknowledging each other? It makes so much more sense to just REPLY TO THE THREAD saying, "Hey, this is a really great post." or "Wow, I like this idea a lot!" It's much much much more personal and public and awesome.
And if you really need that much of a ego boost, keep a tally of how many positive replies you get. There's your rep.

Well, i agree with ricky and breepop. people would just favor those they want to, and some would be left out, even if they had a constructive, helpful comment. and like breepop said, you can always post that you like the idea!

13) If it were possible, we would have gotten rid of post count a long time ago. Post count doesn't matter No idea why you guys keep beating a dead horse... I'm sure if someone figures out a way to do it, the admins would implement it.[/quote] Its not rocket science you know, anyone with access to the source files can do it.

Its not rocket science you know, anyone with access to the source files can do it. It's different here on ProBoards than it is on other forums. Also, if you're talking (literally) about the forum's actual source code, only the people at ProBoards have access to that, not any admins here. And getting the ProBoards people to do anything is like yelling at a wall. Seriously, go make your own ProBoards forum and mess with it for awhile. You'll see what we're talking about... or you'll figure out how to do what people want to do. Sounds like a win-win to me.

The only solution to all this is moving to another platform. I'd suggest IPB. SMF and PHPbb would also work.

You will have administrative access to that. You will then see the difficulty that admins have in adding anything and precisely how much access to things they have. That's all I meant.

When I first heard about this I thought it was a "like thread" thing, rather than a user rating system. Now I'm not so sure...
Someone said that it'd encourage people to post un-spammy posts and while that's true, I think it'll also deter people from posting incase they don't get rep for it. Also I just don't think it'd look good to new people coming on and realising they have to be rated before their opinion holds any value.
I mean, it COULD be a good thing, but it's more than likely gonna cause drama and tbh we don't really need it (the feature OR the drama)
I did like the rate thread idea though, I think that could be kinda cool. Though it'd probably be better to use a 1-10 rating system isntead of points for that to rule out threads with a 0 rating as being crap, and being unrated instead. But again, we don't really NEED that.

the thing is...it would be sooooo easy to make a simple script or macro to run up rep counts...without being detected...ridiculously easy.
