I love all my friends. If I didn't love them, they wouldn't be my friends.
I'm not IN love with my friends, that would be weird.

I'm in love with all of my friends. They have nice tits.
Just kidding. I love them in a platonic way. I think most people love their friends that way.
There is a big difference in commitment when saying, "I love you" to a friend and "I'm in love with you" to a...more-than-friend. I think that love is such a strong feeling, you'll know when you feel it. If you have any doubt about it, then you're not in love. ;P

I think alot of it also comes from the many uses of the word. Love for family, love for things, love for friends, etc.
