I actually really like that idea, but I think the idea of a stray might be far fetched in a society in wich strays are taken and often killed. I would say to to the pound and save an animal on the day it was meant to be put down, raise the animal to be healthy and then do something to give back to the community with it. Actually, you would be surprised at how many no-kill shelters and emergency adoptees are out there already doing that. The cat I mentioned ended up getting bitten at one point and needed an abscess drained. It wasn't our cat, persay, and we couldn't afford it. But one shelter we brought him to gave us a really roundabout loophole. They said THEY would have to put him down because of their policies, but because he was feral, if we brought him to THIS vet, they would bring him to THIS shelter, which was affiliated with THIS association and on and on. In the end, he was treated, brought fully back to health, was picked up by PetSmart, and adopted within a month. People always think shelters are death traps, but if the animal is healthy and friendly, you wouldn't believe the lengths these people go to for them. As it is, Dan already has two dogs if I'm not mistaken. Bringing a new animal directly into his home would probably upset them. Also, not all shelter-strays need nursing back to health. Most just need homes. Adopting one would be useless if he were to then return it. The only case in which a temporary adoption could work would be newborn kitten/puppy raising. Even no-kill shelters are forced to put down parent-less unweaned newborns (there are just too many and not enough hands to feed them). If someone were to come into a shelter with an unweaned litter, it would only take about two weeks for them to start on to solid food. Dan could volunteer to handle them for those few weeks til they're adoptable. I understand where you are coming from. I actually work at a no kill shelter and we make sure that they go to good homes. But kill shelters usually call us up and ask us if we can take an animal that usually would be put down. They aren't all bad people, and they want to help. I would think that if he could easily adopt a pet from a shelter or take in a feral domestic animal he should. With the newborns I would be careful because one would need a lot of research, time, and some experience to raise a newborn without issues. Though I really do find helping the overgrowing stray animal population a great idea, in whatever way he can. :3

I think that we should take advantage of this opportunity to decrease world suck. Someone mentioned (sorry I don't have your user name handy right now, feel free to chime in) that Dan should do something for the homeless.
At my college, to raise money and awareness for homeless shelters, there was a program where students slept in a box overnight.
I think this would be a great monthly goal for Dan, to get a bunch of people, and a supportive place where the fundraiser could take place. No technology would be allowed, except cameras to document emotions throughout the night.
As far as goals go, you could set a goal to get a certain number of people to register to take place, or find people to pledge money (example: So and so will donate $10 if you can go the whole night, etc).
We could also decide which month this would take place in, how many blankets he would be allowed, etc.
(sorry for all the -etcs- but I don't have every detail yet!)
Direct foreseeable expenses for Dan: buying a night vision enabled video camera if he doesn't have one already.
We could choose the homeless charity that all the money goes to. We could bring this further and have the pogotribe host fundraisers just like Dan's across the world where we live.
This might be thinking really big, but there are no limits!
Please, let me know what you think!

i think that Dan should join the venturing program (a branch of the boy scouts of america) seeing as it is the 100th anniversary of the scouts in america, Venturing is a co-ed program for youth ages 14-21 there are venturing crews all around the country so it would be easy to find one for him to join and it would cost almost nothing

tossing some ideas up into the air: record a daily log of amount of waste produced. any way to coach some sort of rec team? dan surrounded by lots of teeny little children. haha. give a child a (holiday) that he/she may have not been able to have. learn to decorate cakes or desserts. over the course of four weeks maybe find 4 families with 4 different ways of life and live each style for one week. can dan learn a new language, then travel to the country that the language is spoken and live there for one week and see if he can manage with only speaking that language. has dan ever gotten a manicure/pedicure? thatd be a fun adventure. i know men do, do that but maybe he hasnt ya thats all i got for now. All of those ideas are really great.

Another idea I have is to attend some kind of protest rally in Washington DC, or even a more local government building. It can be for whatever the pogotribe decides: gay rights, animal cruelty, the war, etc. Dan could document this and talk about the issue, as well as organize a meet-up or a respectful debate or something to raise awareness for the subject at hand :-)

monthly goal: set up a pogotribe meet up where everyone can get together and talk to dan about some of his interests, so that we we can make him do things not only that we want, but things that he'll hopefully enjoy too. i know he said he didn't want to have a say in coming up with the ideas, but we could at least get to know him a little better. i mean, we know he likes to pogo, solve rubik's cubes, and is a democrat, but i feel like we could learn some of his obscure interest.
long term goal: i really like the idea of doing something for charity. maybe something to do with the oil spill? we could have him take a certain percentage of the money he gets monthly from youtube and save it for something to do with that.

One day a week/month, go to a mall, grab any person, and get them to star in a video with you.
Run for political office.
Create a "YouTubers Union".
Buy a second-hand Guitar Hero guitar and film yourself smashing it.

There's this musical activity I'm really into, and I plan to participate in at some point... In a nutshell, it's called Drum Corps International. People call it Marching Music's Major League, because that's exactly what it is. Take marching band, multiply by any number over 9000 and hype it up on steroids, that's what this activity is. Kids from ages 14-22 audition around the country to become a part of their local corps. Once the 150 member corps is decided, they begin training and start putting on shows in July. The corps travel around the country, as far west as Cali and as far east as New Jersey, competing to see who's show is the best. This all ends in August, where every corps meets to perform at Finals and decide who the top twelve corps are. EXAMPLE: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5n-K0xZuoeg That is a video that compiles the best of last year's moments. There are many more on that channel if you wish to see them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WWmM1jpM8I (A video on how drum corps members are proven to be athletes) I'm sorry if this post is long, but I'm just really excited to hear opinions and see if I can get Dan to: 1) Go to Finals, August 14th in Indianapolis or 2) Just flat out take some time to study the activity, watch some videos, and acknowledge the hard work these kids put into to entertaining audience members and judges around the country all summer... www.dci.org/ (Official Website) Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe Dan should make an origami banquet every week for Daniel.
It could start simple for the first week, but it could get a bit complicated every week. It could be so awesome to see how Dan would make his origami.
Anyone agree?

Find a barbershop chorus close to where you live, and go to a few practices... ok... most people probably think this is a weird suggestion, but 2 of my favorite things are barbershop music and youtube, so this would be an awesome way to combine them ^_^

I really liked that idea about him making 1000 paper cranes. I've always wanted to see someone do that. Or maybe we can let him switch it up--1000 paper animals.
Okay other random ideas I had. Write out a bunch of Hogwarts acceptance letters, leave them on the doorsteps of random houses, ring the doorbell, and spy on people's reactions from the bushes. Lemonade stand--and donate any money earned to a charity Give out Hershey kisses to random cashiers, doorgreeters and others who have equally boring jobs. Paint a mural--the exact subject could be decided on by the pogo tribe Dress up as a turtle and interview random people about the disaster in the Gulf. Get completely lost in a forest or cornfield or other location.
I'm not sure if this next one is so much a goal for Dan as a goal for the PogoTribe. I think he/we should organize flash mobs--have us all do something really random in a public place at the same time, like have everyone go to their local library on August 17th at 2:52 pm and solve a rubix cube in front of the main enterance, or stage a ninja fight in front of the local Wal-Mart--I think flash mobs would be a great way for us to meet other PogoTribe members in our area and build a sense of community. I'm just not sure how this would work for those of us from smaller towns since it is pretty depressing to show up at a flashmob by yourself. Maybe Dan/we could generate a list of cities where the flashmobs would take place and we could try to travel there? I'm not sure.
Feel free to run with any of those ideas everyone.

If you haven't had pasta for breakfast, I vote you should! Pasta is considered a normal breakfast in some cultures, but it is mostly alien to American breakfast (for we have fried balls of sugary dough drenched in sugar and sprinkles to satisfy us). If it really is an alien tradition, it can change your outlook on the entire day. Maybe you'd feel like the day is going to be over sooner (like if you had just eaten dinner), maybe you'd feel like you're lazy (like if you had had leftovers), who knows. While it is a really small idea, it can last to an all day feeling. This is, of course if you have never had pasta for breakfast.

I really liked the idea of Dan learning a new skill. Kind of like on Sims where you make your sim, lets say learn to play the guitar, your sim can then use that skill to earn money to help buy a new house or buy new furniture that will benefit them in different aspects of their day to day life. Now I know that Dan can already play a guitar, but about cello or just a skill in general. DAILY GOAL: Vegetarianism anyone? So I really like this sims angle, when I play the game I always have them learn a bunch of things so I can develop their personalities. Clearly Dan already has a personality but I think we need to start thinking along the lines of helping him explore what else could be apart of his personality. What else would he like to try? Also I really like the vegetarianism thing, at least for a month to see how he feels about it.
