I say we avoid RIDICULOUS sigs, so like a 600 limit is good. I agree with this. I disagree, you remember my sig? That was HUGE way to big...

i hardly see why this conversation is relevant. your opinions are worthless. all of them. theres a poll at the top of the page, and 200 is winning. if the poll means something 200 is the limit. if the poll is meaningless remove it.

Ok then lets put it at a 400, seems reasonable. Also I think the poll is utterly useless and does not give enough options.

because creator of the thread thought it would decide, things change. ^ This, pretty much. From reading the thread, I'm now of the opinion that we should just decide it on a case-by-case basis. Besides, way too many people voted no for that to even matter. I'd gladly remove it, but Proboards fails, so...;P

case by case...because THAT will always be unbiased...

case by case...because THAT will always be unbiased... you have a point. On the other hand, if there are two sigs one being a 400 pix orange block (like the orange used on construction zones) vs another 400 pix this time it being a drawing that features something important, relevant, or even funny. Should they both be as easily forbidden? Maybe it being a case by case thing its not such a bad idea. I would just suggest that every time they are going to ask a member to take it down, it is a unanimous decision by admins, and not just one person's opinion.

Maybe the orange block is symbolic, and you need to think to get it ricky. I think neither should be banned easier than the other

You guys are taking this too seriously. Honestly, this would just be a guideline so members can PM other members and say, "Hey, can you make your signature a little smaller? It's bothering me. In the Forum Guidelines, it says signatures should only be X. Thanks." You can still do that now, you'd just have Forum Guidelines to refer to...

oh yea, totally bree. You are right.
Only thing is, we are talking about after they've been asked by other members if they could take down their signature. Like when it might be a bit controversial.
Thats when I say it should be a unanimous decision, Asher says after a limit they should all be forbidden, and Jon says they should all be allowed.

Well an admin would PM the member if they were to remove the sig, and the member has the ability to press the "reply" button if they feel they were wronged.
There's bias everywhere: you can't shy away from a decision because it might lead to bias. Then nothing would get done. ;P
I say 400px is a fine guideline.

So if someone creates a 400px sig they might or might not get a message from an admin asking if they were to remove their sig. To which the member can reply, which can be meaningless. Other admins might not feel the way this admin felt about the sig, but it is left to the discretion and bias of said admin since there is bias everywhere anyways.
right?

Ricky, with decisions like this we normally require the consent of 3 total admins. One admin proposes, two more agree. So with a signature, it would be 3 of the 5 admins agreeing to PM the member. I'd say this prevents a good bit of bias.
Also, not really appreciating the smartass tone. :/

lol i'm seriously not trying to use any kind of tone. Anyways thats a great way of deciding if a sig should stay. The only reason why I asked, was because your post was too vague, and might have caused dilemma later on. This way we can know for sure that if someone is asked if they could take down their sig, at least a few others know of it and agree with the decision. chill cortney, chill...

I just use the option in preferences to not even show any signatures, so i say be free with your expression and make them unlimited. ( i voted for 200 before i realized just how small that actually is ) Based on those imgs from Sean My entire viewable screen (inside firefox) is right around 600 pixel height. So if there needs to be a limit, how about 5 screens? Thats right 3 thousand pixel height of signature for 1 sentence of feedback i can already see the complaint mails sent to the admins about that BUT it would be a great way to teach people to use the preferences and let them block sigs on their own
