I'm going to the US next Wednesday, and I've calculated that I'll spend about 11 hours in the air. Anyone got any ideas for good music or books i can buy for the trip?

The White Album. It's long. It has great songs. 30 of them actually.
Oh and Abbey Road.

I went from Chile to London... 24+ hours of travelling. 12+ hours in on flight. If the airplane has movies and/or games, well, you have that (I watched Alice in Wonderland and tried to watch Being John Malkovich, but then the thing broke and I couldn't finish it =/ ) As for music, I can't tell, it really depends on what you like, maybe make a really long playlist. For books is the same. On the flight back to Chile I read Peanuts/Charlie Brown Comics (Comic strips are easier to read than conventional books, so these are better if you happen to be on an uncomfortable position in your flight or if something makes it hard to focus). Also: Food, specially something refreshing. And there is always the option of sleeping (unless your seat is really, really uncomfortable)

whenever i fly to the mainland the flight always has individual screens, since it's considered an international flight, so i just spend the whole time watching movies and playing games on the screen instead of occupying my time with whatever i've brought with me. so i'd recommend just bringing something light, like a book, if you know that you're flight's going to have the cool individual screens. which is should since it's international.

Im gonna be on a 14hr flight in a couple days. At one point i got so bored on my last flight that i started to write random notes and draw random doodles in the inflight magazine (kinda like what dan did in the skymall) Also, try to start a conversation with another person. You will be suprised at how much time it kills. And when your at the airport, hog the power outlet. the first one you see may be the last.

Buy The Perks of Being A Wallflower if you're into very psychological and social books. It interested me so much that I spent an entire day reading it, and it took me 9 hours to finish...
It's basically about this really awkward high school freshman that makes a couple of friends who get him to try new things. It covers topics such as drugs, parties, sex, homosexuality, and basically chronicles his experiences from his point of view in diary/letter format. It also goes into detail and leads up to the revelation of WHY he is so socially awkward.
