I think the thread is the best way to go, then, if you'd be making a new thread every month. But you should delete the old ones every month then, too... it wouldn't be fair to flood the site with many threads for one project.
Hmm... maybe I should apply for a position xD

Haha, honestly, I think Catcher in the Rye would go more towards worldsuck than away from it...

Well, whether it would or not, I will still enter it in with the rest of the nominees. We are just putting books out there now, and we are not at the stage, quite yet, of dwindling down the list. But thanks T3CHN0B4BBL3 for trying to keep us on track.

No you should try! You'd be great for this project! And no rejection isnt fun. I hated finding out I wasnt an admin. But I got over it. Rejection is hard to take, but its a necessary part of life that makes being chosen all the more joyous.

I'd like to officially also nominate John Green's Looking for Alaska. I believe that expanding one's literary prowess by first examining critical life issues is key to working towards ending world suck. If you cannot first understand yourself, how could you possibly understand others? Eliminating world suck is impossible without first examining "personal" suck, if I may be so bold.
In case it's not clear, various reviews and small anecdotes indicate to me that this book does just that.

Hey Jon, I think you should take out the first link in the original post... It's to apply for a position, which is closed and the thread is gone.
Also, how are you going to decide what book we read? If you haven't figured it out already, I suggest you take the 3 or so books that get suggested the most, then make a poll and then read the book that gets the most votes... I don't know, maybe you had something else in mind...

I'm not sure if someone has already said this. If so, I'm just reiterating the point that it would be easier for people if the books recommended were available in libraries everywhere. I know I would never find any of John Green's books in a shop here.
Juuuust something to think about when choosing which books to read.

If you haven't figured it out already, I suggest you take the 3 or so books that get suggested the most, then make a poll and then read the book that gets the most votes... I don't know, maybe you had something else in mind... Well I have delegated the decision of how, and the responsibility of choosing, a book to our new Vice President, Real! For our first book, I have decided that Me, the vice president, and the president (pjpinc123), will have a meeting, and choose a book based on specific criteria: 1. Does this book help us end or understand world suck! 2. Will this book be fun to read (will people stop in the middle, because it is boring) 3. Will this book spark discussion among people on SPOTM. This will take place ONLY for the first book, as it allows the executive board a chance to communicate and to know each other better. Afterwards, it will be Reals responsibility to choose the method, and implementation of how the next book will be chosen, and to present this next book to the executive board. I hope this answers your question.

I know I would never find any of John Green's books in a shop here. Juuuust something to think about when choosing which books to read. Hm, I think this is a good point. However, in this FIRST ROUND of book choosing, we will be deciding what book to read based on 3 criteria: 1. Will it help us understand or end world suck 2. Will it be fun to read 3. Is the subject matter enough for SPOTM to have a discussion about it. After this first book, our Vice President is going to take complete charge in the book choosing process. He can decide whether he wants to really take this into consideration. I am not sure if availability is such an issue, especially with the advent of sites such as Amazon.com. I am sure people like to buy locally, but if you can't find it in a book shop, or in Barnes and Nobles or Borders (which I hate shopping in), then you can most assuredly acquire the book online. I know this doesn't give much solace to your request, but rest assured, I believe our criteria are powerful enough, that, in most cases, they will generate a book which, in my opinion, is widely available, hopefully. Until then, lets keep our head up. And keep recommending books (you guys have until the 15th!)
