I am actually pretty happy this came out and I am really interested in what everyone decides. So far everything that has been posted for our "Noble Cause" has been way too vague.

how about... World Peace and Universal Empathy? I think if we can get universal empathy within the tribe and get the tribe growing and growing and growing and this empathy to spread all over the world, i think it would fix most of the problems like poverty and war and suffering.... not diseases though, leave that to the scientists. Ricky posted a project trying to match people with other people of opposing views to them, like match pro-choice people with pro-life and make them listen to each other and try to understand the other view even if they could never agree with it. That's a real amazing practical step towards empathy. I think whatever we choose it should be something we are capable of taking baby steps towards, even if it's not something we can ever achieve. Just to throw out a couple concepts that might be includable in the noble cause: - Global Communication -- everyone on the planet with a voice - Global Freedom of Information -- no censorship, transparent government, freedom of speech worldwide Love this, we should absolutely incorporate this. Global communication and understanding - the babelfish! Let's hope Douglas Adams was wrong about being made aware of our differences making us go to war with each other! I have a question, when we come up with a noble cause, say we take this one (which i also think is awesome): Create equality in education and communication. That includes everything inside World Suck.. Teach people how to improve themselves and how to improve relationships with the rest of the world. I think it's not too vague, but it's not too specific either.. Would it mean we started limiting our projects activities and discussions to things that fit in within the cause? Say something like the "You are beautiful" project which doesn't really fit into it, would that suddenly become low priority?

- Global Communication -- everyone on the planet with a voice I was totally thinking something along those lines. Maybe we have kind of a two-fold goal. First, we wish to have at least one representative from every country on Earth in our tribe. Sort of like PogoTribe ambassadors. Then, with the ambassadors in place, we strive to give a voice to every person in every country who wants a voice -- whether it be regarding poverty, politics, health, hunger, clothing, shelter, warmth, it doesn't matter. If we could use the internet and our tribe to build such a unified global network (the likes of which DEFINITELY does NOT exist now), we will most certainly make our world a better, more hospitable place to live in. I mean, imagine a world where >85% of the world knew each other. The possibilities with such open communication would be endless. I totally agree with this idea. It's awesome. Just pure awesome. Although I would like to add that you would have to have "teams" in each country (maybe triads? wink wink), because if you have a country like Germany, and only one person is ambassador for that country, that would be crazy. You'd need a lot more people. In a country like Belgium, you need a lot less though. I really like this idea, and I think it would greatly decrease world suck.

Whoa RabbitWho, world peace? What are we beauty pagent contestants?(XD no offense of course, I'm just kidding) But seriously..
The tribe is amazing and full of some very ambitious people, and I have no doubt that our noble cause will be big, flashy, bright, shining, and awesome. HOWEVER I don't know if our tribe is capable of say ending the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, or convincing North Korea to play nice with the rest of the world...
@ Everyone - I liked the thought that we are trying to end world suck, but what suck are we ending exactly? I mean if you asked me what world suck I could end, if any, it would be cruelty to animals.
But it could be different for all of us, so the challenge is definitely what is something we all agree we need to work towards. Maybe just paying attention to our respective governments and gaining enough members to change the world for the better by uniting under the PogoTribe, and voting and petitioning to get the right pieces of legislation passed. Would that be like a PogoTribe political party? Hmm might not work for other countries..
Oooh or we could put an end to lobbyists and big business being a part of the democratic process! (But I suppose that might not work for certain countries as well? I dunno are there lobbyists around the world? I sure hope not..)

Would it mean we started limiting our projects activities and discussions to things that fit in within the cause? Say something like the "You are beautiful" project which doesn't really fit into it, would that suddenly become low priority? This is part of the reason I thought that a goal that includes getting everyone in the world involved in helping the world would be valuable toward our noble cause. Of course, projects that don't fit the noble cause would still be lower priority than those that do. But at the same time, people within the tribe can hardly be limited to those tasks that are directly for the noble cause. So I wouldn't be too concerned.

Good talk. I'm going to wait a little bit to join a triad.. my last one failed, and I didn't do triad 2.5, but I guess I'll do round 3... and isn't our noble cause to reach a level 5 tribe?... or to make the world a better place?

Will the noble cause be something we're already doing in the project section or will it be something completly new (that covers all the bases)?

I always thought our noble cause was to end world suck.. I think that's what a lot of us want to do. It may be unrealistic, but it goes along with "think impossibly big," and I know I personally wouldn't be satisfied if the pogotribe were to settle for less. I totally agree

As for all the discussion about what's possible...
Impossibility is a myth. If we made it our noble cause to selectively breed blue whales to the point where we could have one the size of the moon, orbiting the Earth, given enough time we could do it.
Let's focus less on what we think is/isn't possible and more on what the ideal world would look like to us.

I'd go for turning the moon into a giant cookie that would take umteem years to have been completly nommed :3 *bigsmile*
oh... wait.. wrong idea thingy...
[seriously] I guess our noble cause should be something vage for starters and be adjusted while we evolve as a tribe similair to the socratic method, when it doesn't aplly any more it needs adjustments..
So I think we should start with 1 thing and expand/correct it during the tribing process.
Maybe we don't need to have a perfect idea of what we are trying to reach, since I reckon we might think about this differently when we continue "tribing"..
[Did that made sense??]

My Utopia would be every single person on Earth happy. I mean we could advanced thousands of years in evolution and technology, but if we're not happy, life is pointless. So... EVERY person on earth should be happy. No matter what situation they are in.

*just finished watching/listening*
Well, deciding what the Pogotribe's Noble cause... well, you could almost make it a noble cause to COME UP with the nobla cause. So to speak.
What I'm saying is the Pogotribe is a great community, but with no real, specific goal yet as you satated in the POGOTOK, and yes it might take a year and houndred thousand trheads and millions of posts, but we'll get there.
People tought space travel was IMPOSSIBLE. Then man took a step on earth. So Everything's possible, and the pogotribe has so many great idéas and capabilities that I believe we've only scratched the surface of it.
I'm HHSS, and these are my thoughts.

There's one big question I have. If we finish our Noble Cause, can we come up with another? I know you (Dan) said that when we finish our Noble Cause we can quit our Tribe, but do we really HAVE to??

I think our noble cause should be to reach universal happiness. If everyone in the world was happy then what else would we need?

k, like.
The Noble Cause has to be big/significant enough that there would be no point to the Tribe anymore. That's what we're trying to set here... a goal that makes this tribe unnecessary. Not in a bad way, but like a "Wow, there's nothing else we can do. Guess we're done."
