Aha.. It makes sense then. I dunno why people would think that way then.. maybe girls are expected to be "bisexuals who prefer guys". There's that horrible random joke in that stupid random show family guy.. something like ""This isn't what I was thinking when I chose to be gay." - Being gay is a choice!? "For girls it is." " It usually IS a choice. Its stupid that people on this board think it isn't. What is homosexuality then? Some kind of disease you are born with, and that we have learned to accept? Some people make it seem more like the deformed people situation - where as in the past families used to hide them, these days they are accepted in society. Is it the same with homosexuality? I don't think so. I think this is due to the fact that (most) minorities which are subject to social conflict are born with this certain 'condition'. Where as it is (or used to be) true with race, gender. I don't believe this is the case with homosexuality or bisexuality. Admitted gays where once straight guys, till they say they 'came out of the closet' - though 'coming out of the closet' for a lot of gays involved a number disastrous activities, and straight sex which they (at the time) enjoyed. With that said, saying you like penis/cunt (if you are of the same gender) does make you gay. If you don't want to be branded as gay, don't say so. People are judged by their words, it happens everywhere, it is not wrong - stop being homophilic and saying it is. Deal with it.

it says fear of OR antipathy towards homosexuals. the definition of antipathy being "a feeling of intense aversion, dislike, or hostility" and TheIslander being gay is not a choice.

Left-handedness is genetic. It's not a choice, and it's not a bad thing. It just means you have different genes than most people. Big freakin' deal?

It's unclear exactly what causes homosexuality. What is clear is that it is not a choice. Many homosexuals have wished they could just be straight in the past to avoid discrimination, but it's not something they can just choose to do no matter how hard they try, and nor should we force them to try. (Experimentation can be a choice, but actual homosexuality is not. Experimentation appears to be more common in females than males, perhaps due to a difference in the amount of stigma, but that may not actually be the case.)

homosexuality isn't genetic, many scientists however think it's hormonal. when a male fetus is in the womb the mothers body sees it as a forgien object and tries to feminize it. This is one possible cause for why people are gay. interestingly the more older brothers a boy has the more likely he is to be gay as the women's body gets more efficient at this feminizing process the more times it does it. If you have the time I'd suggest watching this documenty www.youtube.com/watch?v=m27Awmlgi38

Alot of people homosexuals may act straight and even marry due to society's pressure. Homosexuality has only recently been (partly) accepted, in times before the 20th century, being a homosexual meant death ( I think, I heard this somewhere, but I can't confirm it).

Left-handedness is genetic. It's not a choice, and it's not a bad thing. It just means you have different genes than most people. Big freakin' deal? It is not a disease, neither is a genetic condition. That was my point, Chelsea. As such, left handed-ness is not genetic, less is homosexuality. To date, there is no proof of a "left handed" gene which can definably tell you that you are left handed. Same way, there is no gene which can tell that you are definably homosexual. What there IS proof of, though, is that there exist genes which form your physical attributes in such a way that it is more likely, for one to find it easier to write with their left hand. The same way that there is proof of genes which will give "gay"-like attributes to guys and masculine attributes to women. Though this does not make homosexuality or ambidexterity as genetic. Both homosexuality and ambidexterity depend on biological, psychological and social issues. There is no definable genetic proof to them.

I don't think so. They are not accepted. We've spoken about this before and you've repeatedly rejected all the murders and attacks. You can believe what you want, but spreading mistruths is a horrible thing. If you believe that homosexuality is a choice then you must be bisexual and repressing half of your sexuality. Here is Daniel Craig. Maybe he is not your type, but i chose him because, he's the Angelina Jolie or Scarlett Johanson of men. Are you honestly telling me that if you wanted to you you could find him attractive? Or maybe Johnny Depp because most guys say they thin he's lovely. (I think his face looks like a skull dipped in wax.) I think there are few of us who have never had an inappropriate crush and done everything in their power to stop the feeling. It's not actually possible, you can't control who you are attracted to any more than you can control who you fall in love with. If it was a choice almost no one would choose it, because they have to go through an awful lot of SHIRT. And don't tell me they don't because I have seen it happening and I have seen people I know put in hospital over it, but you said you think think they're overreacting! Who do you think you are speaking for someone else and what they enjoyed? Erections are a reaction, men who have been raped or sexually abused have had erections, they don't mean the person is aroused or enjoying themselves. You're a guy you should know this better than me. It's that easy? Like magic. Seriously.. you are so bi.. Stop self hating and deal with it.

Guys.
IT DOES NOT MATTER IF IT'S A GENE.
Biological != Genetic
Stop arguing over semantics because it means nothing. It's biological. And yes people are born gay... well gay people are.

RabbitWho: Your post is full of contradictions. 1. Second time you have brought up acceptance amongst gays. In the past, gays used to suffer much more. We are accepting gays more and more these days. The gay violence issue has been solved, and is not really that much of a big issue anymore. As I have already said, there will be certain issues but in general - Gays are accepted in society. Maybe not to marry or raise children, but academically and professionally they are. 2. You bring up Craig, Depp and ask me if I find them attractive. If there was a guy which I found attractive and took the option to take it seriously then yes that makes me gay or bi. Just because I don't find your stereotypical hot guy attractive it does not mean that being gay is not a choice. 3. You are considering people who are calling themselves gay at a young age. Though what you don't understand is that a large part of the gay community (and its pioneers) is formed of men who have dealt with years of marriage which have failed. I doubt that a man would marry a woman if he cannot find her attractive (even a bit). A good number of the homosexual activists who are seen speaking in favour of homosexuality publicly and leading movements are mostly people who have had straight encounters and have today decided that they want to be gay. 2. You say it is not easy to judge people by their words, but then again you are judging me by mine and saying that I am bisexual. Well firstly, if a mass of people defines me as bisexual then it is a social truth, the same way that saying you like penis/cunt would define you as gay/lesb socially. Kind of like the way wikipedia is right, the fact that it is formed through masses, it is (at least socially) true.

On the gay gene issue, the evidence is there. The fact that biology can prompt you to have gay tendencies does not mean it is not a choice. I know a lot of guys who are dubbed as gay just because of their posture. It is a social and psychological issue as much as it is a biological issue, but definatly not genetic. Just think, Rabbitwho - just because your biology makes you blonde, does that mean you act stupid or slutty? No that is your choice on how to act. Same with gays. I suggest you think about this a little.

1. If you are not gay - do not go and say that being gay is a choice. You obviously have no idea.
2. Zang - we should meet - Im bi and don't meet any of the gay stereotypes.
3. There are double standards in this world. There are stereotypes. There are ignorant zombies. Because of this, guys and girls have to act differently. In this society, if a guy goes up to a friend and says "I like penises" in a serious manner - he is labelled as gay. If a girl goes up to her friend and says "I like boobies" she probably won't get the same label. This is a double standard - it exists - get used to it. If a girl goes up to her friend and says "I like vagina" she'll probably receive the label. Arguing "I wouldn't" or "I would" is pointless. Not everyone is the same, not everyone thinks similarly on the topic. Labeling is something that people do - not everyone labels the same. Just because you "wouldn't label" someone as gay if they were a girl and said "I like boobies" doesn't mean that many other people wouldn't make that label.
The point of this thread was provide our opinions on the double standard that DOES OCCUR, not to argue about whether it occurs or not, and how or why it occurs. Is the double standard fair? is it pointless? how would you go about trying to abolish it if you think its unfair? how would you go about supporting it if you thought it was fair?
Let's get back to the point of the thread and away from arguing about the how and why.

1. If you are not gay - do not go and say that being gay is a choice. You obviously have no idea. So if you are not gay and you say that it is not a choice, you are allowed to speak? You say that the point of this thread is to share opinions, but you are telling me that if I am not gay I don't have a right to my opinion. Which by the way isn't so much of an opinion since there is no scientific proof that gays are born gay and which makes it a a choice (which is affected by the factors mentioned above).

If there was a guy which I found attractive and took the option to take it seriously then yes that makes me gay or bi. So you do find some men attractive?
